http://www.dsogaming.com/news/crytek-open-sources-cryengine-available-download-everyone/ Could this mean we'll see a port for BeamNG in the long term?
not really, you know the real reason for all the cars in the early cryengine video being covered in dirty textures? Hide the crappy materials system that makes everything either look like a JJ Abrams movie or plastic with no inbetween.
Maybe not such a shame then . It would be nice to see the final game on a different engine though, torque looks unnecessarily dated.
Unreal 4 would be incredible! I'm sure the dev team has built up enough savings to buy a commercial license. But would the physics engine be compatible with it?
This would be the best option but a Physics engine is so much work to create it would be impractical unless BeamNG had a big studio perhaps 100s of employees some of which could be dedicated to writing a new engine custom for BeamNG, maybe some years down the road BeamNG will outgrow T3D we can hope!
I think the devs have made a fantastic physics engine! No need for a brand new one, just a new graphics engine would be nice.
