I mean this game has looked like a basic unity game since it was released. I know and understand that this is is a game the focuses on physics, but why don't we ever see any real visual improvements? I think this game needs a new technical artist. --- Post updated --- I will not double post, I placed this in the wrong section. Hopefully a dev puts it in suggestions
While they've taken steps to optimize the game recently (awesome!), I think they also need to step up the graphics game. They've agreed that it needs motion blur, godrays that actually work, physically correct fresnel reflections, etc but these things need to actually happen eventually. Plus there's a bunch of graphics bugs that need patching, like the flare/cubemap ordering thing I was talking about on another thread. So, yeah, of course the graphics need work. That's a given, I don't think anyone would disagree.
So, lets get this thread back on its rails. I feel the game needs optimization before it gets improved visuals. As it sits now, it gets low fps on any system relative to new AAA games running far more shaders and visual effects.
Yes, IMO optimization should come before quality, especially for BeamNG.drive. I hope to see better graphics in the future, but not anytime soon, and if they manage to improve graphics while keeping performance good, then great! --- Post updated --- Yes, IMO optimization should come before quality, especially for BeamNG.drive. People, act like grown people and cut those useless cat fights. Sincerely, the rest of the forum. (Start another stupid war and you will pay the consequences, no mercy this time) Oh, and don't forget to blame the moderators then.. OP - We have plans (and there has been massive preparation work) for them , but it takes time to get there being a team with small resources/personnel. What we have there is performance vs visuals. First we have to make sure the game isn't as GPU inefficient as it has been, then we can work on making things much fancier
I still run the game on "Normal" because it runs like tripe. I would much rather have it running well long before adding any more graphical effects that make it even harder to run. Plus I really don't think it looks too bad at the moment anyway.
Utah is probably the most laggiest for me. Looking at all the rocks give me a solid 50-40 FPS at most times. Looking other places give me less lag. Maybe optimizations before graphical implementations.
I'm personally more interested in more optimized rendering then I am more graphical fidelity. But having a proper reflection system that can reflect the same vehicle efficiently onto it's self.
I agree with @Testicl3Machine, this game has looked pretty washed out and bland since it came out. While it was still on cryengine 3, it had much better graphics but the physics were much worse, since they updated to Torque3D, the physics could get better, but the graphics peaked at what they are now. I would really like to see some graphical improvements, maybe keep the graphics as they are now but have "ultra" and "extreme" settings for everything that massively improved them. I also do know that optimization seriously needs to happen, I can run games such as : Far Cry Primal, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Just Cause 3, ARK: Survival Evolved, H1z1, The Crew, Grand Theft Auto V, and Wreckfest on my computer with an average of 45-50fps. This game at mid graphics settings gets around 30 fps.
it looked so crap under cryengine 3 that they deliberately had to go with dirty textures on cars just to hide how awful the materials were rendered
I meant the shading, the textures were very crappy, and i know that. That engine had relatively good shading and shadows. Now if I had any engine to choose from (graphics wise) it would be unreal engine 4.
Agree. After years of waiting, I finally understood that the Torque3D engine was already giving its best (just search its name on Google Images and compare to the ones of Unreal Engine/CryEngine). This is why I do not expect a noticeable graphical improvement from the devs, at least on the medium term.
Saying graphics engines have a "best" is nonsense, just like the game the devs can rework and improve the engine drastically.
You can't rework an engine's graphics, you choose an engine for the graphics that it provides, if it has something that others don't, then it has that feature. If it doesn't have that feature, it just doesn't. You can't really change that.
consider the devs were able t add DX11 to the game themselves and enhance its performance in the last update, yeah totally cant change...
What i am getting at is, you can't totally revamp the graphics to get it to a level that the majority of games are at, it's just not going to happen on this engine. No game that runs on Torque3D have amazing graphics (that's for a reason) So if we want new graphics, the game probably needs a new engine but god knows how long that's going to take. The most they can do NOW is optimize the game, 30 fps on mid settings isn't really tolerable when you're used to playing other games like H1Z1, Rust, Ark, Wreckfest at max settings and getting over 50.
