I don't think there will be an x64 version of the game.

It should be, 64 bit programs work faster. It's possible to compile Rigs of Rods with 64-bit compiler but I'm not sure if it's possible with Torque3D.

that means 2/3 of the whole beamng community cannot run beamng cuz they (including me) have a 64 bit pc?

No, all 32 bit programs run on 64 bit computers, but 64 bit programs only run on 64 bit computers.

64 bit support is not some kind of magic bullet. You can compute some things faster with 64 bits, but in other cases the bottleneck is elsewhere in a system and it wont make a difference to performance. Supporting of 64 bit addressing will just increase the available RAM that can be used. For the physics, having a multi-core CPU and concentrating on threading is going to be much more effective than few 64 bit instructions. Still, not using 64 bits in 2013 is a bit odd, since CPU's have had this functionality for a decade. It would be nice... but probably won't be that important unless 64 bit would offer any significant advantages, but I haven't heard of any.

You can compile a program in both 32 bit and 64 bit, and it's not a big deal. 32 bit programs run on 64 bit windows systems because they have an emulator.

No. 32-bit applications are more efficient on 64-bit platforms. If BeamNG is 32-bit, it will use less ram, less CPU, and run smoother on a 64-bit based system as well as serving the needs of a person who runs 32-bit Windows 8, 7, Vista, or even XP. However, if BeamNG is 64-bit only, the developers will lose the, as you claim, 1/3 of the community and future costumers due to the simulator not being compatible with their OS.

Um, it uses less RAM, less CPU, and run worse on 64 bit systems than it should because its using less power than it has the power to use
I have also yet to meet someone who is running a 32 bit operating system.. Also, if you make a game that is new enough and needs enough power from a good processor, there really isn't a single core processor out there that'll do it that is also used by any large group of people, and if you bought a 32 bit operating system for your multi-core CPU, that's your fault..

All the ones who say the 64bit version would cause a percentage of the community to cease playing is beyond ludicrous.
If you have a CPU that has dual core or above then it is capable the only thing that is stopping is the OS you choose to run,
Preferred to have a 64bit operating system these days anyway as a 32bit system only can use a certain amount of ram regardless of how much is installed...

    More about this here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa366778(v=vs.85).aspx

There is such thing as releasing both x86 and x64 variants... But saying this I am happy with the x86 version, but would love to try a x64 variant to see the performance difference.

I do not think there will be any performance differences except that you can allocate more memory.

Cheers for the input, I am happy with the performance of what you have achieved thus far.

eh, it doesn't seem to use all of my cpu power even though i have a slow pentium d, and it didn't take all my cpu power even on a p4 3.00 ghz, so I don't think it gives the best performance/optimization. This is if my computer isn't bottlenecking somewhere else though.

Do you force close all unneeded services and applications so it has the potential to use more CPU without interruptions?
