Hi, im going to update my pc cause this old one cant really handle BeamNG Drive so well (Specs: Phenom II X4 965 BE, HIS HD5770, 4gb DDR 3 RAM) I've been searching quite a bit and came to something like this: CPU -> Intel i5 6500 MB -> MSI Z170A PC Mate GPU -> MSI Radeon R9 380 4gb RAM -> 2x 4gb 2666MHz DDR4 Do you think this setup will run BeamNG? Thanks for your comments in advance!
Get a 470, much better performance for the same price. Also don't get a Z board with a non-K CPU, either go for a 6600K or get an H170 board.
I suggest you to add more RAM in the future. Very large maps like "Desert Highway" eat your virtual memory after you have been on the map for like 20 minutes. Go for 12 or 16 gb. And as @BlueScreen said, if you have those extra bucks, go for the 470, which is like 50$ more (depending on where you buy it) and obliterates the r9 380 in gaming performance.
I played BeamNG on MSI R9 380 4GB and you would play on combo of medium and high with low dynamic reflections 1080p, so yeah, if it's possible take RX 470/RX 480, R9 380 is pretty good card in it's price, but RX 470 have best frame rate (performance) per price and is way faster than R9 380 ~30-35% IIRC.
an HD 7950 can run beamng drive at max settings with good fps except for dynamic reflection so i think that the 380 should run all with no fps drop at all
I recommend you purchase the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo rather than the Arctic Freezer I11, as long as it will fit in your case. The Hyper 212 Evo is, without a doubt, the best cooler for the money. Otherwise, that build is fine.
Are 6500s overclockable? As I can't find "6500K". If no, there's no reason to buy better cooler, if yes don't take BOX version, as you'll not use intel's cooler anyway so you may save just a little bit and take OEM version. And as Funky says CoolerMaster Hyper 212 is really good - keeps my 4690K cool @ 4.7GHz.
No, the i5-6500 doesn't have a K version. The i5-6600 does, though. Buying OEM can be problematic, as it is intended to be used by manufacturers, and therefore doesn't have the warranty that the consumer ones do have. OP: If you think you'll want/need an aftermarket CPU cooler, you can't go wrong with the Hyper 212 Evo. Although, as mentioned, you probably won't need it. Still, it isn't a bad idea to get it now if you plan an upgrade at any time in the future, it'll last years.
im going to say one thing: intel cpus being better than amd is a myth and is not true so save money and buy an amd fx 6300
Bullshit. An FX-6300 can't match a dual core i3 and has the single thread performance of an 8 year old Core 2. Not to mention it's got a single FPU every 2 cores, so floating point performance is actually far behind that of a Core 2 let alone a modern CPU. Multi threaded performance is only half decent because it's got 6 cores, but it's still got crippled FPUs and single thread performance is rubbish.
Don't spread misinformation. I'm not an Intel fanboy and I would hate to see an one-company monopoly. But objectively speaking the FX-series was mediocre in 2011 and awful in 2016. The FX-8350 gets decent scores for multitasking because of the abundance of cores but that's its only card to play as even at absurdly high clock speeds it still isn't as fast as modern Intel desktop CPUs at their stock clocks. Anything below the 8320/8350 is absolutely anemic and an excuse for a modern CPU, especially the FX-4000 series and Athlon series, which even with a two core advantage can't beat an entry level Intel Pentium. The simple reality is that Bulldozer was a disappointment at release (previous architecture Phenoms could beat it) and the fact that it's continued five years past its welcome proves AMD processors can be sold... at the right price. Take a look around the forum and you'll see people with AMD processors struggling to run the more complicated vehicles even at frequencies almost double my stock clock. So yeah. I'm holding out for success for AMD with Zen, but until then Intel is the only viable option. EDIT: Ahh, it's you. I've already explain this to you, have you forgotten? http://www.beamng.com/threads/general-computer-talk-advice.11843/page-113#post-260256
That is exactly the reason I wanted to choose an Intel setup. I've read and heard from all directions that basically any AMD cant handle as well as Intel. Especially in games like BeamNG which need lot power from cpu.
