Hi, a little update, not much to say about, dont have a lot of time, so progress is going on quite slow. @ Bullinator30: Thanks for the pictures! As you can see on the wireframe picture below, I slowly have to obey the polycount, the GM-Interieur seems to have some more curved stuff in it, so I think Ill orientate on the AM General. @ Dr.pain: Thanks Like FastestClassic wrote, naming is done, its going to be the Governator G1, but thanks anyways, guys! -Johnny
I think those tires are needlessly high poly. Wireframe of one of my tires: (imported from here) The poly density for the other stuff looks good though (except for what I said earlier about the coil springs). You could really get away with 4 segments for the cross section of the coil. It looks the same from a shading point of view as 8 or 12 sides and you never really see the endpoint up close so the silhouette doesn't matter so much. Though it probably is some work to redo the coil with 4 sides, so 6 is fine I guess.
Yeah, took me hours to get that done, you know, 3dsmax colours new objects itself, but I didnt liked the random choosen colours from 3dsmax, so I copied and deleted all the parts hundreds of times, I also tried to speak into the computer when making new parts, but somehow it didnt listen to me, it always choose other colors than I wanted it to. Rubbish program.... Than I heard of this new stuff, I think they call it textures or so. Must be some rocketscience like stuff, I think the professionals use them for something, dont know yet what theyre good for.... I better ask someone what to do with this cool new stuff they call textures and where I can download them from.
Looking awesome! So what is left? just the jbeam and textures plus interior? Moving pretty fast, and again, it looks fantastic.
@Gabester: Yeah, I just like it to start a bit highpoly and than cleaning out as much as possible, easier than making lowpoly, noticing its too low, thinking sh*t, what now, redoing or inserting polys. I just prefer that way @Marcoso: Thanks, but as said before, the name will be Governator G1 @squat251: Thanks! Well, theres still a lot to do: -Reducing polys as far as possible without making too big polys, so the car can still bend on impacts etc, -The engine, -The whole drivesystem, -The Interieur, -Unwrapping/mapping and texturing (figuring out what BeamNG can handle better, one big atlastexture for everything, or better several smaller textures to only stream the needed/used textures) -Some different versions of tires, chassis and parts -Biggest headaches are caused by the Node/Beam system at the moment, I can handle all that moddeling and texturing (except for the damn suspension ) but really dont have any clue yet about the Nodes/Beams. Have been playing around with them for some minutes, but surely need some more trial and error to get used to them. If theres anyone who really has a plan about that stuff and wants to help a newbie (ME) to learn it too, please PM me! -Surely alot of bugfixing, trying, improoving, which definately will take atleast the same time (in the best case) as building the 3d model. Im not going to rush that thing, I want to understand BeamNG for further projects (thinking about a nice old red London bus) etc. So, 3dmoddeling/Texturing etc. will take some more weekends, than Ill start with getting it ingame, and than, when I think its fine to be released, its going to be released. No public alpha, maybe for some invited testers. Thats how it (hopefully) will be. Btw: My last post was ment a bit ironic, no offence @Razordraac -Johnny
Notice I didn't ask when it would be finished, only what was left. I know its going to take a while still, just curious. He said he doesn't have much time to work on it, yet has done so much in so little time, its pretty impressive. I like to see what's left, I guess I'm nosey. @johnny Thanks! I have heard some horror stories about the jbeam setup, I'm assuming that its going to get better when they make a program to edit them faster. I would guess that its on its way.
Good point. Yes, it is a bit of a nightmare at the moment... I've tried to figure out how those darn things work at least 10 times so far, but only got myself more confused
That may have come off a bit more harsh than I intended, but I wanted to stress I am not like the (children?) who ask when a model will be finished every time there is an update, just not how I roll. Its better that it takes longer, but its good to have a list available, even for the person working on it.
Sorry if I sounded a bit annoyed there, but I seriously meant: good point Don't worry, you didn't sound harsh
Re: Hummer H1 like a Truck (a bit Gabester style) Wonderful job, more than anything I could do. I can't wait till your finshed!
im just curious about the truck, is there progress being made on it? because this is definitely something i dont want to see in the "Cancelled" category
