If I can recommended something; spend one minute in the 'Super_suspension_F' code, and you'll never break the steering again.

Find the steering section near the bottom:

    **

    {"beamSpring":19001000,"beamDamp":180,"beamDeform":94000,"beamStrength":128000},

    **

Change the red numbers to something higher than what it is. I replaced it with all 9s, never snapped a tie-rod again.

The boilde is way to spongy .... i blank grid it will slowly go to the right an then spins out of control just by accelerating ...

    Hi Guys,

the civetta Bolide is strange somehow. I´m not even able to drive a straight line with it.
All the other cars just go straight if i hit the accelerator and don´t touch the steering.
The Civetta starts to whobble around and that´s far from realistic.
Hope, you Guys fix that somehow.
Otherwise thanks for this great game. I´m looking foreward to the new versions.

    Kind regards
    Helldriver

The only problem I get is the keyboard steering became a bit too sensitive for that vehicle, but at the end it's all about controlling the pedal.
Also, I see you are new and since you say you use the Bolide I suppose you bought the game. Upgrade the forum account, the link to do that is in the email with the serial, once you do that you will have a Drive badge under your name and you can access the Drive section, with mods and etc.

It isn't uncontrollable, look. You just have to counter steer. I can show you though that its perfectly possible even on tricky roads.

That is absolutely bonkers driving, very nice!

At first I also thought this car was out of control, but after driving it for a while I got the hang of how it worked.
It would be mad to expect flooring it and taking curves with ease, even in the slow speeds I drive in the video below it can be difficult.

To me at least, faster isn't always faster.

Here is my go at it, I don't claim to be any good, but I made it (almost) 2 laps and that is an accomplishment to me :)

That corner gets me every time :p

And yet another good driver proving that the car isn't uncontrollable. Case closed, the car handles reasonably well. So if a person can't drive the bolide, they're out of practice.

I... what? You just did a near perfect lap of the worst road in the game at 10/10ths with a little analog stick, kept it on the road the whole time, and yet there are "serious issues with the traction in this game"? Do you really expect to do better than that driving an 80s supercar with gamepad over potholed roads at high speed? I'm honestly just impressed at your driving skills...

EDIT: I don't mean to come off as hostile but like... your post makes no sense. Are you complaining that the car is too easy to drive or too hard to drive?

if i could explain exactly what i feel is wrong with the car, i would have posted it in the suggestion section already, but the amount of friction the rear tires have just feels wrong. real tires have a very distinct threshold of friction that keeps them glued to the road- i just don't feel it with this car. it's like driving on ice the whole time, even when carefully managing the throttle. it's controllable (as demonstrated), but very silly. it's a far more pronounced issue when trying to drive an actual circuit rather than a rally-style road where sliding around is expected.

    your post here:

    http://www.beamng.com/threads/1178-Better-handling-traction?p=20809&viewfull=1#post20809

is pretty dead-on with how i feel.

overall, i hope that the issue can be solved (or at least compromised on) so that people think of this game as more than a crash simulator.

Yes, I see what you mean, and you're right. I wish I knew how to fix it (the other cars don't suffer from this nearly as much). The tire settings are all about the same between the cars. Was this video recorded with the latest update? I tuned the Bolide's tires and suspension slightly a few days ago.

The thing is, you have to realize that you're averaging 80 mph over roads where 25 mph would probably be too fast considering the size of the potholes. Just throwing that out there. I've driven the Bolide with a 900 degree wheel around smooth circuits and the floatiness is certainly there, but it's not that bad and it doesn't feel much different from something like a 288 GTO does in Forza 4 as far as the numbness and reaction of the tires. It's not a modern supercar with 21 inch rims and low profile tires - it's got 16s and acres of sidewall.

assuming the latest update is 0.3.0.3, then yes. i'm not sure if that means i was driving with the updated bolida - i recorded this today.

    i wish i had a 900 degree wheel and clutch/shifter to play with :)

in my eyes, everything about the game is mind-blowingly good - except for 'the traction issue' (whatever the cause may actually be). i can only look forward to the future.

How is the toe settings on the bolide? To me it feels like a car with no or negative toe-in. Maybe the links bend somehow and give the car some toe-out when you drive it?

I'm not sure if it's really got too little traction or not because it has really skinny tires for a super car.

I have found that if you set the gravity to -15 (Settings.gravity=-15), it handles like a little RC car. It's unrealistic, but pretty fun.

I found it difficult to steer when I was using the keyboard inputs. It was because the throttle is automatically on or off with the keyboard. I bought a Xbox 360 controller, where you have gradual throttle. Car drives just fine now. Just cannot gun it full throttle all the time. So, those with problems, fork out a few bucks, get a controller. The game is so much more fun with one. Totally worth the cost.

For some reason, the Civetta seems to be a lot harder to drive after the last update (0.3.0.4). I am driving with a Xbox 360 controller. It could be that the steering is "slowed down" more then it was before the last update, or something else.
It would be nice to be able to disable dynamic steering completely even with a Xbox controller. The dynamic steering makes all cars feel a little more "boaty" and overall unresponsive I think, so adding the option to disable dynamic steering completely even with a 360 controller would be nice :)
