Hey fellas, i've read that BeamNG actually has VR support, but it's been disabled, would it be possible to re-enable it and release as beta build on steam?
I'd really love to try it out in Vive.

Additionally, it would be really awesome if you could add support not just for the cockpit view, but add feature to be able to "teleport" around the car when in 3rd person view and grab things with controllers, like you can by holding down CTRL key!

I think i speak for everyone, who has VR, that this feature would be epic and most likely one of the best VR games ever. ... just imagine, walking around the car and being able to touch stuff and rip things off of car or throwing rocks at the car OR just lifting up entire car above your head like hulk!

That would not be a good idea for the moment, even for how good your computer may be.
The devs have to first, do a lot of stuff to the game such as add content, optimize it more, implement newer/better game features, etc (you get the point)
However, they did that because most likely because of this: They might have not completely finished the VR support for the game, as to why they disabled it in the first place. As you might (might not) know, first a game is made (ingame features, textures, map/assets geometry), then VR gets added and configured within the Graphics Engine running the game, which requires a lot of work.

    Hope this answers your question.

There is no more VR code in the gameengine at all, as the APIs changed and it was not working at all anymore. So not easy thing to add it back.

What about third-party injectors? VorpX or Revive or similar?

Why would we support a 3rd party paid software? I guess the proper way would be to implement OpenVR support

Does this mean official VR support is not being added in the near future? I am just curious.

Official VR support was never promised or put in as priority. So no, no official support coming soon.

Woops, no, I wasn't asking you specifically, I was replying to OP. I totally understand why the devs wouldn't support those things, but for the end user who wants to use their VR headset, I was wondering if the suggested would be a viable solution.

Hmmm, well reading all this, how about a VR showcase? A separate "game" where you get to destroy the car in VR, just a small garage or something, where you get to walk around the car (with the teleport function, where you point onto a place and then get teleported there) and can use the CTRL function to pull / move parts.
but then again, i guess it doesn't really matter if it's separate room or entire game, adding VR support is still the same process I guess?

but well i wouldn't mind paying additional 10 bucks for VR DLC and i'm sure everyone else who can afford VR headset wouldn't mind paying bit extra for VR support .. just saying, in case you guys need to hire more staff or need some extra motivation to get VR going :)

in other words, I really hope VR will be added in future.

This game clearly needs VR. I mean, I currently have a seat, steering wheel and pedals setup. Clutch and all. It would be more than awesome to be able to look around whilst I am driving. It would not only feel relatively real, but it would bring in a ton more people to buy the game, just because they already have that sort of set up. Before someone gives a reply like "Oh but not many people have settups like that!", I will say now, that majority of my gamer friends have a set up like that, or better, and that is just in my friend group alone. There are probably tons more people out there that want what my friends and I do. Like people here have been saying, at least throw the idea around a little but. Test it out! I am sure SOMEONE can see where I am coming from, right?

There is pretty much no excuse to not have VR support in a "serious" driving simulation in 2017. That is a deal breaker for sure for VR owners. Its like arguing the pros and cons of Simbin's GTR Racing series having steering wheel and forcefeedback support in 2006. While VR has its if and buts, the one thing it is extremely proficient at is making a driving sim (or even an arcade driving game) properly immersive.

I play Project Cars with my HTC Vive at all times. I woukld never dream of play it without because, it feels absolutely weird and unreal without VR due to one's head simply stuck in place.

That same feeling has now make it way over to BeamNG when I tried it. (Just bought it 2 hours ago). Which is why I am here now to find out how to enable it.. But unless I'm mistaken, the devs are saying there are no plans to have VR support??

So.. next step is: How do I get my money back??

VR is important, but not as much as many other features that a lot more users are waiting for: https://wiki.beamng.com/BeamNG_FAQ#Is_VR_support_planned.3F
It is advisable to check the requirements and supported hardware before buying any software. If you bought via Steam, you may be eligible for a refund, check this page for more information: http://store.steampowered.com/steam_refunds/

Same boat mate. Although I have a simple G29 with shift, I am a ~mad~ VR fan and to TBH, when I bought BeamNG.drive I thought it had VR support from the posts and videos I'd seen quite a while back. Don't get me wrong, this is one badass game with an awesome engine, but it is incredibly surprising that it does not allow for VR natively, I mean even Assetto Corsa did it.

I hope you guys change your mind, for now I'm going to try out 3rd party solutions but do keep this in mind, SteamVR is open-source, I myself have dabbled with it in the more Pop engines like unity.

(PS: I know this thread is more than 1 year old, but it definitely merits further discussion, I mean here we are, over a year later and some dude was googling how to enable VR in Beamng.Drive and now is bumping an old thread because of the VR train. LET'S HOP ON GUYS!
Idk, better than starting a new thread, putting some phunk into this one shows that there is still interest in it)

The devs made up their minds 2 years ago, and it’s the same answer. No. Not only processing power, but also some major coding too. The game engine doesn’t even support it anymore. So why bother. The idea is cool. But not possible anymore.
