My family is getting a new car. We are a family of six. Two parents and four teen boys ranging from 5' to 6' in height. Currently, we have a 2008 Honda Odyssey EX-L with 190,000 miles on it. We have narrowed down the options to two vehicles. A 2017 Kia Sorento SXL AWD, or a 2016 Toyota Highlander Limited Platinum AWD. (Both for US market). Important things that we needed were A) Three rows, B) AWD, C) Heated steering wheel and front seats. Both cars are around 45k. Both are highly rated and extremely reliable. This car is for my mom. Kia has really stepped it up in regards to overall quality and is pretty well on-par with the Japanese makes. At this point I doubt you'll find any notable differences between the two. Both are high-quality vehicles that meet your needs. You could compare the numbers find nitpicky differences here and there but they're pretty much the same car. I say test drive them both and choose the one your mother likes the feel of more.
That's kind of where we are at. We have test drove both for extended periods of time and like both a lot.
I think the Kia is better looking, if that helps. I think I would rather own a Toyota though, for no reason other than brand loyalty.
That is also exactly how we feel. Toyota has the reputation that Kia doesn't. But Kia really has mastered the Sorento.
Soo. Were looking a Kia and a Toyoda. Well Toyoda is a horrible company from my experience. We have had 2 trucks that have rusted out frames and there was a recall but apparently they did not have the problems but they did. So we had to sell them for dirt instead of getting them fix because Toyoda said they were ok. We have also had a similar situation with the tires falling off. When they did fall off they fixed it for $2,000 because they said "Nope no problems here". Kia is a really unknown brand to me so idk about them and I wont make assumptions.
I would stick with Toyota, for durability and such, but if it's much more than a Kia, Kias will get you along just fine.
Toyota's have always been good, Kia has only been good for a handful of years. That's why I would get the Toyota.
Kia has gotten better, but expect alot of cheap plastic. That's all I can say. I flew somewhere else with family to go to a wedding and the airport had left for a rental car was the Kia Sedona minivan, it was alright, but everything inside of it just felt super cheap. I can't say I have ridden in the new Highlander yet, but I've owned a '97 4Runner as my first car in the past and it never failed me. So yeah, Toyota's got its reliability, apart from what others say.
I have the highlander limited. Wait untill october because there is going to be a facelift which adds many more features such as: 5 USB ports (2 front, 3 back) New trim levels Paddle shift New interior and exterior colours and options New, much more powerful, smoother engine 8 speed 'box smoother suspension new lights and other features.
The 2015 Toyota Hybrid Highlander is pretty nice, spacious and good MPG, almost 40. I would definitely reccomendations that.
Looks like we are getting the Highlander. We liked the Kia better but after driving the Kia for a while, my mom realized that she didn't like the driving position as much. Otherwise, we liked the Kia better in almost every other way. So we are getting a 16 Toyota Highlander Limited Platinum in shoreline blue with the ash interior.
Hmmm.. Too bad you don't like it. I think the '15 Highlander ( I know, you have a '16) was pretty nice. Spacious, luxurious for a Japanese SUV, and it gets 40 MPG (hybrid edition) . I hope it grows on you, nobody wants a car they don't like...
The hybrid was too expensive to the mpg is the same as the Sorento. The Sorento has more interior space even though it has a smaller exterior foot print. And the Sorento had more features for the same or better price than the Highlander.
The second and third row are more comfortable in the Kia. It looks way better. I don't hate the Toyota it's just not as good. Plus the Kia is one of the most reliable cars now. Plus the Kia has all of the small things that I love.
