I've been playing BeamNG for close to 3 years now, and I must admit, its come a heck of a long way. Throughout that time span, there's been so many new fixes and new content, but I still believe that there is still a few things we can add to make this game the very best it can be. I'm no modder, so I'm hoping that other modders out there, and maybe even some official game content creators, can look at some of these ideas and think about it, preferably having an end result with actual content. I'd like to make it clear that these are obviously just suggestions, and that I, as I already said, am not a modder in any way, and therefore do not know how hard or easy it would be to implement these things into the game. 1. Even deeper parts destruction: Yes yes, I know, we already have a ton of parts that can be detached from vehicles in the game, this is BeamNG after all, but I was thinking maybe someone who really knows they're part creation skills can make up some algorithm or something than can randomly generate cracks within certain parts when impacted at a certain pressure that could split those parts into multiple different pieces, making crashes be even more crazy and realistic with simply more scrap metal flying around. This, in my opinion, would make the game feel so much more vibrant than it already is, and maybe this "breaking point" can be harder or easier to accomplish with different types of metals cars use, like carbon fiber for certain sports cars, or the basic metal for most cars. Small impacts, for example, will only have part of this "breaking point" actually break, leaving even more unique looking crashes with jagged edges on some of these parts, instead of them just folding and bending like normal. Another thing I'd like to see in this field is to have the glass, like the front windshield, become more destroyable, I guess you can say. Maybe we could have shards of glass sticking out after a particularly hard crash, or glass completely gone and actually pieces of it littering the ground after a really hard crash, in which that pile of glass can be swept up by any tires and pop those tires, making it a bad day for that guy who just bought those new Pirelli sports tires. 2. Modder's specifically: Airbags: I know staff have said many, many times that air bags simply won't happen, but I know someone out there who's a modder can probably make such a thing very easily. Also geared towards modders: The challenge of putting test dummies inside all the default vehicles along with airbags. This would also make the game feel even more realistic, like we are actually doing this testing in real life, having an airbag explode in Busters face from Mythbusters while the D15, for example, is smashing into the side of a Covet. I'm not sure myself if this is actually that easy to make an airbag, but has anyone even attempted to shrink the giant airbag already in the game? All someone would need to do, in my opinion, would be shrink it, attach it with a node or whatever to the vehicle, possibly change textures, try to fix bugs in which vehicle interiors and certain parts that crush the airbag can cause instability and send the airbag all stretched out, and invent an algorithm to have the airbag know when the vehicle (Plus test dummy, if that ever gets included) is in trouble at a 15 MPH+ crash or whatever which would then launch the airbag till its stretched out to the desired length. 3. Related to #2: Steering Wheel deformation: Okay so, I'm sure this has been noticed by every player in BeamNG, but has anyone really ever made a giant rant (Don't worry, this isn't really a rant) about how steering wheels don't deform really at all in the game? It would be epic to see steering wheels come detached from vehicles within the game, instead of them just sitting there attached to a certain place in the vehicle...which 99% of the time is in front of the drivers seat right under the dashboard. They also tend to end up under or above really pancaked vehicles, and they still turn left and right ever so perfectly after being tossed out of the sky. Speaking of airbags: The airbags mentioned in #2 would obviously be put inside the wheel, and if the wheel becomes deform-able, this airbag can blast out of the center of the steering wheel, sending the cover of the steering wheel flying off somewhere else...hopefully not hitting the driver like what the current problem is in the real world. 4. Better dial deformation: Like the steering wheel, the dial pointers always tend to stay in the same place and the same spawned in height as the main frame of the car it is connected to, which can be weird when you see floating dials and a working steering wheel after you just went to the moon and back in you're new Hirochi Sunburst, for example. 5. More destruction upon explosions: This feature can be extremely fun for a person like me who finds the game to be as fun as it is already, but with some fire mixed in. When the vehicle gets enough ignition from the flames and causes an explosion, instead of just moving the car an inch off the ground and popping the tires, maybe we can have the car actually explode, like parts, if not already broken off, fly off 10-15 yards away only to hit that newly spawned in row of test dummies you just spent all day trying to spawn correctly. Related to flames: When a vehicle is caught on fire, maybe we can have some parts of the vehicle melt, like after the tires have popped, they will soon start to droop and become really deflated and eaten away by the fire, and the seats on the interior can be eaten away too. This feature can also have the added effect that a fire actually took place, painting the vehicle that charred black we see in real life car crashes after the fires have been put out. 6. Some sort of a device that can tell if the subject driving the test vehicle has walked away from a crash, sustained injuries, life threatening injuries, or death: I forget what this device was called, but the Mythbusters used it many, many times for experiments with Buster to tell if the subject could have walked away from the event, sustained injuries, life threatening injuries, or death. Most of the crashes us adrenaline junkies perform on BeamNG are probably not survivable, but hey, why not have something that tells if you died or not in those smaller crashes that don't always happen as often, but are still fun to do? Anyways, these are my suggestions I just spent all afternoon trying not to fall asleep doing Hopefully some of these ideas are taken into consideration, and actually planned through with an end product, happy content creating! -Wolfy
Most of what you listed just couldnt be done or at least not done well, however there is one suggestion that I'd just like to comment on. First off that's extremely unrealistic, secondly it would also be extremely annoying when racing gets added.
I meant to say to have cars explode after sitting around for a minute or so on fire, not directly on impact, unless the car is beyond obliterated
Throughout this whole list the only thing that would be plausible is number 6 that measure survivable or deadly g force loads (its called and accelerometer). But seeing as people or even dummies have been denied being put into the game by devs becuase they do not want people reenacting them getting hit or something along those lines and this would also mean a modders would have to do this aswell otherwise it is sort of pointless. The trouble with being an individual who does not know much about the game or how things work means that you are unaware of how hard these mechanics are to Implement. Just a quick roundup 1 incredibly hard to implement this is not the way the nodes and beams break and deform. They tend to stay attached to each other unless it is another separate part that detaches from the car such as a door or bumper 2 to my knowledge i have not heard anyone speaking if making an airbag and have heard several people(experienced people) say that it would be too hard to do and would most likely just cause instability anyway. Download the propane tank mod as it works in a similiar way 3 and 4 in sure these will happen eventually but they are not really major features 5 unrealistic, its not meant to be a movie. 6 could work but seeing as there will be no people in the full game it is kind of pointless because the accelerometer would bot be in the person it would be a solid mounting point and the g forces would most likely be much higher than on a person who absorbs a bit of the impact.
Sorry for sounding like an ass and having the grammer and run on sentences like an 8 year old. But it is the truth and being somebody who knows the basic principles and capabilities of the game. I understand the basic concepts of how the game works. When you have spare time, you should try reading around and maybe have a look around the forums to see what problems people have and how they solved them. I find it very interesting and that is how i learned everything i know about this game.
Yeah, I've been trying to get more involved with the community lately, looking at problems and how people solved them, as you said so yourself. I've been on this website for two years and I'm just now starting to actually look throughout the forums to get a feel for how the game works, I only posted that thread above because I thought the game could handle a couple of those things at it's current state, and I'm happy to see feedback from the community.
