I have a single Ethernet cable going to my room, however I need to get internet on 3 devices. I dont think ill need to use two devices at the same time. Im just not sure what im looking for is called a switch, because that is some networking device that I dont really know what it does. (could somebody inform me?) I need something that I can switch what gets internet. So, if my pc is getting all the internet, I could hit a button that would give my playstation all the internet instead of my pc.

Im sorry in advance if this is too vague, I have a hard time explaining myself.

You need a switch. The cheap, consumer ones have a gateway/internet port, and a number of client ports. Plug the cable that goes into your room into the internet/gateway port, and the devices into the other ports. Consumer ones (what you should get) set up automatically without any issues. I personally would get one that can handle gigabit connections (may be labeled gigabit or 10/100/1000) to prevent bottlenecks.

the switch wont have any kinda button to redirect bandwidth btw, but if you arent actively using both devices at once, its really not an issue. The PC only uses as much bandwidth as it needs, the playstation only uses as much as it needs. Switch can balance out between the 2 anyway and if the PC is off, boom, playstation basically gets full unrestricted access. Once you have it plugged in and powered on, its a set and forget system. Thats it, no config, no fiddling, just plug it in, switch it on, leave it
