I start to be really bored of european car... TVA, Taxes, and way more... Today, in France, getting a car with 150 hp is already amazing... SUV ? Nah, Count at least 35000$ for a crappy boring 150 hp FWD suv. We just want big v8 suv, but it wont happen, ecology... you know.
Same here in germany at as it looks right now its going to get worse hopefully the ecos wont come to power here because then we wont have petrol powered cars after 2030
And even on german car, like on the new tiguan, we don't have the 180 hp petrol version. Only the 190 hp diesel one, and even here, still cost around 4k more
Id rather not buy a vw you just pay for the name more not i would buy the new skoda kodiaq its bigger cheaper and has a 180 bhp engine at least here in germany
Totally agree, but sadly, i'm not a massive fan of the front end... But in overall it's better. And still we don't have the 180hp one
Coming from a very different part of the world, it sounds wierd to hear people say that it is very difficult to find cars with over 190hp. shit, my crown victoria has 250hp, and that feels kinda average compared to other things ive driven.
It is because of the eco taxes. The average car is considered a small car in the USA. My father drives a Mercedes C klasse 220CDI, I use it too sometimes, it has a 170 hp 400nm diesel and it is considered powerful and big here. It is quite fast though.
As someone who owns and aspires to own lightweight cars. It doesn't really matter how much power it has. the weight is the bigger factor in my opinion. My excel in my profile picture has a Twin cam 1.5L I4 and apparently makes 99hp and considering that it wieghs just over 920kg the power to weight ratio is quite good compared to many other cars. You dont see any hellcats breaking any track records. Want to know why. They weigh 1900kg's.
@Blijo @CreasingCurve The ideal for me is a giant engine in a small car. If Chrysler managed to build a sub 3000 lb car with the Hellcat engine, I'd be tempted to sell organs for it.
Dam i'm glad I don't live in Europe the more I think about it. Daddy needs a car with horsepower. but then its not the end of the world, its only bad when you have a low horsepower engine in a really heavy car.
Our least powerful vehicle in my family is a 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe, which still makes 150 HP (or so) even though it's pretty much an economy car. No Europe for me, fortunately.
What are you on about. I remember seeing SR20's on ebay with gearbox (not sure about ECU) for around $1000. If i found one off of something like an N14 pulsar (all models except Gli have it as an option), you could get it way cheaper and with all the stuff you need especially if it was in a rear ender or crash which wouldn't effect the engine and gearbox.
I don't know I was just speaking out of my ass for some reason. Note to self do research before making jokes.
Especially with this one. I can be a bit serious at times and the fact that when reading and writing on a computer always sounds monotone to the person reading makes it hard to put across jokes and sarcasm.
I was bored so I had a look at prices of SR20's on trademe and found them to be fairly affordable mind you the price of SR20DET's were pricey especially when you could buy a good running car for the price of one engine. But then I guess that is how supply and demand works.
Even if you bought an N/A SR20 you could probably stick a turbo on it and run like 10psi. Might have to buy some bigger injectors and better ECU so that it actually works and doesn't blow up after five minutes though. When i eventually get some cashflow and move out of home. It would be fun to buy a cheap turbo like those TD04's that Subaru's use and just stick it on an Excel and keep cranking up the boost until it blows up. Excel engines aren't worth anything anyway. --- Post updated --- Do you have your own car? I remember seeing a green 90's model civic as someone's profile picture and can't think of whose it was.
It is actually white (camera filter made it look green) and it's my parents but it has been given to me to learn how to drive in. I would love to buy a 8th gen Galant when I start my automotive apprenticeship in a few years.
