He just built a rig with very similar specs.

 

Without GPU (I don't have it yet) 30fps T-series on Utah.
With GPU, I'd assume 60 at higer settings.

Finally finished getting fan filters for the intakes of my computer case. Hopefully it should help with the 560ti getting clogged with dust and general well being of the computer.

I may have also bought a new monitor (AOC G2460VQ6) since it was £90 which is an OK price for a fairly well reviewed monitor. Its intended as a secondary display since I already have a fairly colour accurate primary display. Completing the compatibility nightmare that will be a 1080p60fps, 1050p60fps and 1080p75fps monitor setup. I mean, I guess FreeSync is nice, even if I can't use it because Nvidia are arseholes.

Hopefully if I decide to add another one in the future (since the monitor may be in January sales too) they will be happy accepting a 60fps fixed input to allow for surround gaming without any janky frame doubling. At which point I would have to move the 1050p screen either on top of my computer or on top of the subwoofer since it has no Vesa mounts.

Plus I am hoping for a Ducky Shine 5 (MX Browns) for combined Birthday/Christmas. I also have plans to add RGB lighting strips along the back of my desk because RGB all of the things...?

I am pretty hyped for the upgrades to my setup. Should make games, programming and general use a bit nicer. Will be sad to retire my 18 year old rubber dome keyboard though, it is still 100% fully functioning and generally quite pleasant to use. Its creamy off white dated colour scheme and laser etched key caps will be missed. Will certainly be keeping it though

 

Delidded my 3570K, just for the hell of it. Temps dropped by 10°c which is pretty nice.

 

What's the point of a CPU lid if you can take it off AND have it drop in temperatures?

 

To prevent people from killing their CPU's. The lid helps to protect the CPU die from getting crushed, even the smallest of scratches in the CPU die can make your CPU Ummm... die.
In the past removing the lid wasn't particularly effective (much smaller temp drops), but a couple years ago Intel switched to cheaper thermal compound, so it can make sense on some more modern CPU's.

General advice: Do not delid your cpu if you are not willing/able to replace it.

 

Most older CPU's had soldered die's too so if you tried to delid them it would result in you destroying the chip. As Aljowen said, it's pretty risky if you're not sure what you're doing I had a 2500K ready to throw in my PC if things went south. And I'm not running it without the lid although that might have gotten me 5°c less, I just wanted to replace the near 6 year old TIM under the IHS, it was pretty much dust. I went with the razor blade method though I've heard people have more luck putting the CPU in a vice and hitting it with a hammer and a block of wood.

My friend wants to put a GTX 1060 3gb in his ol pre-built. It has a tiny power supply with no 6+2 pin power, so there's no way he could do it. He's going to do it anyway...

No really, don't do that. Its just not going to work, as 6677 said. Tell him to get a GTX 1050 Ti or any another competent 75W GPU, sure its not as powerful, but its cheaper and its as good as you can do without ripping out the PSU and replacing it. Pre-builts can be a total nightmare too depending on what they are so its best to just go with the easy option.

Even something like a 1050Ti will run modern AAA games fine on high, just don't expect ultra or 4K obviously, but you wont be doing that on any pre-built like the one you're talking about.

 

He could probably use a molex to 6 pin adapter, bit sketchy though.
