It's like the time Ford tried to turn the mustang into a I4 powered FWD hatchback, the only difference is this time they went through desecrating the name of a car with history and a massive fanbase, I'm no Aussie but even im pissed about this. It would be fine if they just called it a Holden insignia or whatever even if they discontinued the commodore it would be better than labeling a crapbox which shares nothing in common with what its named after as THE Holden everyone around the world knows and for the most part respects. From a financial point of view it also doesn't make much sense, the people who would have purchaced in a new commodore will be turned off by its complete lack of what they would have wanted(other than name), and the people in the market for a fwd I4/V6 sedan have a massive array of options, and probably wouldn't even consider a commodore due to what they have been known for in the past.
I wouldn't mind half as much if it was some sort of fake black filler plate that was obviously not a window, but in all the pictures it just legit looks like it has 3 rear windows and urgh.
I'll reiterate, There hasn't been a car that has made me go "Wow, that thing looks great" since the late 80's. Sure there are some nice looking newer cars, Newer Challenger and Charger, Pontiac G8, Chevy SS, Police Caprice, (Three of those are Holdens) But even those have never really "Wowed" me. Though I have been looking at NEW trucks lately, and actually looked at a 2016 Dodge Ram 2500 Power Wagon Tradesman, and oh my, I think I want one. 4.10 geared, locking front and rear diffs, automatic sway bar disconnects, 12,000 LB hidden winch. It's only available as a crewcab/shortbed, and the only engine option is the 6.4 Hemi, but even so, I still am really liking it, It's a Tradesman model, so it doesn't have the dumb HID headlights, the huge "Power Wagon" decals, no touch screen nonsense, It has a manually shifted transfer case a plain cloth seats. As much as I'd like to have the diesel, the 6.4 has 410 HP and 430 ft-lbs, and while that might not be diesel kind of power, but the one I drove today was pretty darn peppy. I just keep telling myself I don't want to take out a loan, but damn. The full option Power Wagon
In a time where all manufacturers are pulling out of Australia, Nissan has just started producing its EV engine components in Australia & have hopes of growing the operation. Whilst they aren't producing actual cars on the site, it does give a glint of hope for the future of the Australian car. Onya Nissan.
You know with all these companies starting to make high performance hybrid cars. Why hasn't anyone made one that was practical in day to day situations? That would be awesome as it would show to people that hybrids aren't limited to enviromental types.
Nope. I just think it would be awesome if there was semi affordable hybrid performance cars on the market especially Japanese. Imagine this with a small turbo engine connected to an electric engine with AWD. Make Mitsubishi great again!
Mmmm... Power Wagon. I want one so badly. Curious why you don't like the HIDs Ram has though, I think they look way better. I was just thinking about this the other day. Currently the only option for "environmentally friendly" cars are lame economy cars or super cars way out of the price range of most people. I'm not sure how well they would sell just because of the stigma around hybrids but I would be game for an affordable performance oriented hybrid or electric car.
Yeah I'd rather not have something based off the Prius as it would still have the terrible interior and a weird overall shape.
Don't get me wrong, I hate everything the new Commodore stands for too, but I can't help but think it's gorgeous. Couldn't ever see myself buying one though, just because I couldn't stand looking at a Buick badge every day. I also just realised it's being called the LaCrosse in Canada just like everywhere else, which is an interesting choice seeing as "crosse" is a French-Canadian slang word. The LaCrosse has always been called the Allure here for that reason.
I drove a Lexus CT as a loaner car once when I had my GS, based on a Corolla platform, has a "Sport" mode and everything, it felt peppy, but the CVT transmission was weird as hell and tied to the Prius engine, it felt like it has potential, but held back by that engine.
Two reasons, A: I despise blue headlights, in any form. B: I don't care for the aesthetic of them, They seem cluttered, It just looks like there is too much going on behind the headlight lens.
A: While I agree that blue headlights are annoying, Ram uses a relatively yellow bulb. B: Fair enough. I disagree but that's just personal opinion. I mostly like the fact that they use LEDs for the turn signal and running lights, I think it looks way better and is a lot easier to see.
