Simulation of strength of car. New car without rust and old with rusted chasis or etc. When car is rusted have lower strength than car without.
    Something like that (2m20s):

(I didn't see another thread with rust)

something like this? The blue truck made more damage to the rusty one than the red truck to the new one.

If tou are talking about the simulation of the effect rust has on the structural strength of a car riddled with rust. It would just be a matter of lowering beam deform/spring in an area so that it deforms easier compared to if it were in better condition/unrusted.

However making rust appear on vehicles that are old without coming up with a skin to make it look rusty would be much harder.

DeformGroups could be used, like the Oldsmobile does.

is that the codename olds mod? i didn't know it was that in-depth

wouldn't it be easier if it were to be somehow used only within cars of a certain age group, for example if its a car from the 80's itll have rust on it but not if its something newer. Maybe in the vehicle selector you can choose one of two variants: "rusted frame" or "new" or something. I think it would be an interesting addition

This is what the oldsfullsize mod does. It adds another body type that has lowered beam strength, but it visually looks normal. @CreasingCurve is just describing how you would code it so that the car would act more weaker than an no rust version of the car.

@FLyInG 2 YoUr SoUL I have never made my own jbeam or really looked at deform groups so i am not exactly sure how they work. Unless they are just a group of beams that deform separately in a breakgroup.

Wouldn't it be too hard to add a dynamic value that modifies the strenght of the Jbeam and rigidity of the body in real time? I mean, its not much different from what the rollcage does. The skin could just be a fade in transparent skin that becomes visible the more "rust" there is. Its the code part of the "rust" that i find that it might be too hard.

I'll be honest because im not a modder but I'm pretty sure that isn't how the roll cage works.

Increasing rigidity and stiffness of a car? yes. That's how it works.

Huh, didn't think the devs would kinda cheat physics like that, I assumed the roll cage would have its own Jbeam and that would stiffen the car, didn't think the values of the beams/nodes would just be raised like you are saying.

From inspecting the Moonhawk's rollcage jbeam, it would appear it redefines some of the roof and floor nodes with more weight, and simply adds stronger beams in between them.

Noooooooooooo not those beautiful Escorts :( RIP!

Rust is a serious problem among old Fords though. I need to weld the rear wheel well of my Fiesta soon...

Oh. You meant in game? i meant IRL. I have no idea if the rollcage is a visual model that makes the already existing Jbeams stronger or if it creates many more inside the car.

Visual models do nothing but create shadows and visual effects, they have no collision or properties besides positioning. Read my post above which explains the rollcage.

You did explained some parts of the rollcage but not everything. Does the rollcage actually ADDS Jbeam points then? or does it just makes the jbeams stronger?

    Can be both.

Ideally, it should add more beams to the structure matching the shape of the rollcage, and I believe this is the proper solution adopted by most official vehicles in game.
