Alright, in the possibility of being 'that guy' either in the sense of conspiracy or of reading too much into something I think I should comment and see what kind of reaction I get out of people, maybe we might get some more light.

Okay, so far from what I have been reading there is no confirmation if the BeamNG game will be free to play, completely free or a commercial product. If I'm wrong, please correct me - I'm happy to find out otherwise. Right, I've been browsing the forums pretty heavily since I registered earlier today and I think I noticed something that Mr. Gabester has said, that might point towards a "free to play" aspect but where you can purchase other cars.

This is posted in one of his threads and I have bolded out what I'm referring to:

I believe I might be reading too much into it but discussions don't hurt, well they don't if you stay calm and not hostile :p. I'm thinking he might possibly be discreetly (or accidently) hinting that there will be base cars that you can purchase for use in the game, then there will be games that come 'stock' with it. Now, my only discrepancy with this is they are advertising for BeamNG to be easily modifiable. Now whether they are referring to the final game itself or the middleway engine itself is unknown. I might be mistaken on that last sentence, but for the sake of argument let's just say I'm not. I'll read up on it and you should too, don't take everything I say seriously; Do your own research. What are your thoughts on this?

    __

One idea I am leading up to is that the game will be released commercially (Pay once with extra DLC?) and they will release BETA versions prior to the release so that members will get to try the game, give feedback and see how it goes from there. One thing I am hesitant about is the passion that these guys have. They are so passionate about getting these types of games out, are they about to turn around and limit the players? Majority of RoR players are more then likely youth and as such may be on limited budget. Are they willing to possibly lower the player count? (Until a holiday comes because we all know they'll get it for christmas/birthday or something). Food for thought.

I meant free as in in-game money :) We plan to have a career mode in the future.

The game will likely be a flat price in a similar vein to the Minecraft sales model, with the price occasionally increasing over time as more features and content are added. It's possible we'll release themed DLC packs later on (non-essential to the base game), but the player will not feel nickel-and-dimed about having to pay for individual vehicles.

Hmm, so what I am gathering is you guys are planning to release the BeamNG Game similiary to an independent game called "Kerbal Space Program". What they are doing is releasing an early BETA version for an X amount of price and as development goes on they increase their game price? This isn't that bad of a system because the dedicated early followers can get it dirt cheap. Interested to hear about the career mode, and you at least hinted to something involving money :p

To elaborate on the idea of extra content; basically if we add content later on it will be done in such a way that you don't need them so long as you aren't interested in that "theme", in theory anyway. For example if we did a mudding/crawling expansion it would share very little with circuit racing expansion and so you're unlikely to be feel you need to buy both unless you're actually interested in both.

I don't think we need to think too much about extra content for a while yet though :)

Alright, that's kind of what I thought he was implying. Sounds to me this will be like a good method of release. Going to start putting money aside.

Would it be possible to buy the game flat out, for say $50 and then receive all future updates at no additional cost?

Yup. I'm guessing downloadable. Unless a game is released for consoles, it seems like a waste of money for a PC game to be released as a hard copy.

Great! On a side note, then, does that mean that an Alpha or Beta release is going to come out soon?

This has been discussed to death already. There is no release date yet, but I hope one is given soon.

If the game is paid for, how will creation of custom maps and vehicles work. Will it be a you only pay for official add ons and people are free to make their own etc?
