I'd say some extra issues with limiting attempts are that it punishes lower end equipment disproportionately. It's much easier to save a sketchy situation with a wheel than a controller, which is easier than a keyboard, which is easier in all cases at smooth framerates than it is with hitching and stuttering and the dreaded input lag. Even completing a single rally back on my old toaster computer was a nightmare so I speak from traumatic experience. This actually makes me curious, what would a replay recorded under laggy conditions do when played on a better computer? Would the lag be gone or would it be etched into the physics? That replay idea might have an awesome dual purpose if the former.
I don't think it's feasible to limit the number of runs per scenario. Perhaps if everyone was livestreaming it would work but, realistically, you can't guarantee everyone would stick to the limit.
Maybe instead of limiting the amount of runs we should limit the amount of submitted runs- everyone can submit their best time and after that there's no changing it. There is no way people would actually stay under the limit.
Pretty much agree on everything here. Let's have, say, 4 test events, 1 week each to record and post your best run. No restrictions on cars or setups for the first round. At the end of each event we compile the results and each one of us gives a feedback on what worked/what didn't/any kind of suggestions. Then we decide what to change (if anything) for the next round. I would still assign points even if we decide for a "dry run", so that we have some extra motivation in keeping it competitive until the end. We could use the WRC scoring to start with. As for officiating members I think it would be fair to have them change after every championship, so everyone gets to both drive and organize the events at some point. Needless to say I am definitely going to participate
The thing is .. If people stick to this. You cant "control" if people are just taking these 4 test runs.
No no, sorry my bad. I meant 4 test stages for the opening championship (or dry run, if you will). One may do as many runs as he/she likes over the course of the week.
Sounds good to me. We have to use points for a dry run anyway, or else we can't tweak the scoring system. With some people driving spec sunbursts and some driving a diy covet zxi with rally suspension in the same championship we will be able play a lot with it.
This is basically what we'll have to do, which I think is fine anyway. This sounds like a great start. For the events we could just use a couple mixed asphalt or offroad quickraces, how does that sound? On the subject of officiating members, maybe we can use the winner(s) of the previous event as officiating members? It doesn't sound like we'll need them for the first championship.
That would end in everyone submitting their runs right at the end of the week. Limitting runs seems fairly impossible. But we should not bother too much about that fact Winners for judges at the next Championship sound good to me.
It looks like we'll have rules for the first championship in no more than several days here. There'll be an event each week, you upload a video of your best time for the event before the next event's week. It should be that simple.
Just like all things nowadays. I think a discord group will be essential to this. One thread with times, another with tuning and help as well as a chat/discussion and video postings of your laps.
