I've been playing BeamNG or quite some time now and I've always worked out different ways to make it run smoother on my laptop. I've managed to pull a steady 20+ FPS most of the time, but what I've been thinking about lately is my laptops performance as far as BeamNG's performance page goes. As of right now, it shows a green checkmark for everything except Ram. My laptop currently has a factory 4GB DDR3 card in it. I just ordered an 8GB DDR3 card today so I'm wondering, will it make any kind of difference as far as gameplay or performance goes?

Having more RAM will allow the game to load more textures and run a bit more smoother while providing the OS with its share of memory. Another performance idea, if you're particularly daring, would be to remove the heatsink and replace the factory thermal paste with that of your own. After doing so, dust everything out. You should see slightly improved temperatures/performance due to the laptop being able to disperse heat more efficiently. I hope everything works out!

    Edit: wording

just dont expect any huge improvements. it might fix some stutter here and there but your fps wont improve in a major way.
the limiting factor is either your cpu or your graphics card.
if its the graphics card you might get some improvements from lowering your settings further but if it is the cpu you are pretty much out of luck.

That's what I was thinking because right now, my PC is probably only letting BeamNG use less then half the minimal ram required for the game. I'm running on the factory 4GB DDR3 which is being shared by the whole computer, so no way I'm meeting BeamNG's requirements there lol.

Yeah I know man lol. I'm not expecting it to boost my FPS to 60 or nothing, but small improvements are better then none at all. Thank you for your advice though, I plan on building a Gaming PC in the future when I have the correct funding for a decent one.

I do have another question, will more Ram allow me to have more vehicles out at once without lagging? I'm playing right now on East Coast USA with 3 vehicles out and haven't had any drops in FPS yet, but will it help at all with multiple vehicles? Also I've noticed V-Sync sometimes doubles my FPS or drops it depending on which map I'm playing, what's up with that?

More RAM only helps when you are already running out of it

I am lol, I've only got 3.4GB of Ram available and BeamNG is only using probably half that because of the other programs using it too. I'm technically not even in the right range to run this game as far as Ram goes, so I'm hoping the 12GB I'll have this week will help out some at least.

for your first question: no it wont. the amount of vehicles you can run depends on your cpu power.
the ram will help with running larger maps like east coast since those tend to eat a lot of ram after playing for a while.

about the vsync: having it on only makes sense if you never drop below 60fps.
what you were noticing was probably the vsync switching between 30 and 60 fps since it can only do those two but nothing in between.
if you notice that happening just turn it off.
