I PM'ed tDev about this, but thought I should see if the community likes it first.

Anyway, the idea is to have custom badges. For those of you that don't know, you can get the drive tester badge as long as you buy it in alpha or beta I'm assuming. But I want to take the idea farther.
For example, I have the Folding@BeamNG DC project here. I was thinking maybe members of this group could get a badge under their name. Or people that have made and submitted quality cars could get a "content creator" badge. I know the devs will not create the badges, but the leader of the group that want's the badge could build it. Or maybe members from before the game was released could make a group and get a badge of something like "die hard fan" or something.

    Like?

    Suggestions and thoughts welcome!

I don't see any need for any more badges than we currently have, having more of them will only make the attention seeking post whores attempt to collect them all as a sort of throphy,
Can you forsee the amount of hideous and simple mods that will be made by these people just to get a crappy useless badge under their name? Not to mention all the other useless crap there will be a fancy shiney badge for, all of the attention seeking post whores will attempt to get every badge they can, it will be like a cancer spreading on the forums.

It will be the same like the current popularity contest going on here; mass spam the forum with posts with absolutely zero content in them just to boost your postcount. As a content creator it's and absolute pain to go trough all the posts trying to find some good criticism/ideas/information for the project, I'm not saying that I hate people that post that they like my work, I just like to have more content in the posts. Say what you don't like as well and give some ideas? maybe if the creator finds it to be an excellent idea he might add it.

Why do you even think the forum needs them?

I was in a community a while ago for a game called projectrs06 and that website had a system of clans, and if you were in a clan you could wear that clan's badge. Lot's of fun.

For content creators it would need to pass a certain criteria. As for all the crappy organizations, is would need to be a "recognized" forum group, like F@H or youtuber. But part of the fun is collecting them all and being recognized for things you do.

As a content creator (maps) I totally agree after reading half this post I've already taken your side... I hate when people basically say "hi map creator, goodbye now." even worse people who just come on to get the map and no comment at all I have a map with 300 downloads on v1 and 50 downloads on v0.9beta and 15 comments and only 2/3 of them are constructive criticism or something to make me feel good about what I've created.

Not to say I don't like: "nice job, keep it up" and "good one, Keep em coming" but they don't tell me what they do like and don't like so idk what to make and what not to make.

Nice idea. I think it would be really cool for the mod makers and people like that to be recognized. However, I think it would mostly just contribute to little kids trying to get 'recognized.' They'll get all upset and whine about not getting this ranking. I think it's fine the way it is. Just having ranks based on post counts like most forums. However I do like having the Alpha rank. That way when the full game comes out people can know who to turn to for advice and all that stuff.. so yeah.

Yeah, I honestly don't think it's a good idea to split up the community even more by dividing users between 'someone who made stuff' and 'someone who didn't make stuff'... There's just no point to me... I don't feel like I'd be getting any recognition just by having a badge, and I don't feel like I'd deserve any "extra" recognition anyway(I mean, seeing people like my stuff, seeing people talk about it, and being given feedback.... that's more than enough to me) Honestly, to me, everyone is equal, and I think keeping users equal is also much more inviting to new users than having a bunch of guys running around with a badge that's basically telling the new user how much better they are than them... "Look at me, I made stuff"... I'd much rather see people giving others feedback on what they've done in a thread for whatever I've made(ie wheither they like it or not, and some ideas on what to improve etc)...

That said, can't you just have a not-too-large badge-like thingy in your signature that says you're part of some group, if you feel like you want that? I assume it's possible to put pictures there anyway?

If you make high quality content for this game, you don't need badges, your reward is already pretty satisfying, recognition inside the community :)

@mythbuster All very true points, and I like the last idea. I'll get to making a F@H badge.

Not going to happen, sorry :-/

We do not want to segregate the community even further (Not to mention that it could trick people into misinterpreting those images). Everyone is equal :)
