I'll just jump in quickly to make this comment: This ranking system could cause havoc with people making threads called spam thread to get to developer or something like that. Instead of people actually asking questions or giving proper suggestions they would all be focused on their rank
Lots of forums have a rank system and it seems to work quite well. I think we should bring back negative ratings and tie them into it, but put a limit on the number of ratings you can give per day (maybe change it depending on rank) to avoid people intentionally spamming bad ratings to harm other users. The BeamNG forum has a lot less self-moderation than any other I've used and I think that's a big contributing factor to the problems people have been having. Automatically restricting the privileges of users who are new and/or unpopular I think is an excellent way to clean things up without hiring more staff.
i honestly think the devs need to try something new. community moderation, ranks, something! what the devs are doing is clearly not working, and something needs change.
Sorry to break the echo-chamber, but a rank system would really harm the way the community interacts. Yes, new members can be annoying, but all of us were in their shoes when we started. You just have to be patient with them and not give them an excuse to lash out and start a fight. Besides, ranks would be a pain to moderate, and plenty of well respected modders and community members would be put lower than people like me who don't have any mods, but just comment a lot. Customizable titles just sounds like trouble waiting to happen as well. Even if it were implemented, it would be silly to only allow people with a certain amount of comments to have one. It just rewards those of us with no life for being on the forums more than someone who doesn't spend as much time on the forums
quite honestly i disagree with the custom titles. its dumb. and i dont think that digging old threads is bad. i would rather people comment on old threads than make a new one for something already started.i also kinda disagree with restrictions. however, i do think that ranks for vanity and status of sorts would be fun.
You know, now that you bring this up, I think I am going to have to put out my opinion about this whole thing. First off, the amount of trolling and spamming on this website is absolutely out of hand. It should not be happening, but unfortunately it will always happen. Here are some of my ideas. 1. There needs to be a 30 second wait before you can post again because some people just go around the forums putting crappy answers to every question out there even if they have already been answered, just to rank up post #'s 2. I agree with the ranking system, although I feel like you are stereotyping all new members to be spammers and hackers, which yes, some of them are. 3. Also, I think that you shouldn't have the opportunity to become like a dev because some people eventually stop playing Beamng for a while and the original devs can't have people leaving them Those are my contributions to this thread, see y'all later.

No, this is an awful idea. Even badges are enough to get elitist douche bags and people shit posting painfully to get to enough posts or likes or whatever else to get the badge.
Perhaps the rest of the community should vote on who gets a rank up? Then, if they get enough votes, a dev could grant them their rank up.
Awful idea. First of all, this would make the forum way less welcoming for newbies. I know that not every new person that joins the forum will post, but for those who would like to, it would seem a bit unfair and maybe make them feel less welcomed. Yes, there is trolling, but honestly, I don't think much can be made about this. I agree that having moderators from the community would be a good thing though. Custom ranks also seem like a bad idea to me. We already can customize our avatar, our status (that sentence that displays with your profile), our signature... No need for a stupid button to write some edgy stuff such as "prius eater" or some random unfunny joke. Not saying every joke is bad, but we are talking about custom ranks. It's funny how everyone is focused on those 1 star reviews. Look at all the positive rating instead. The rating system is working, but some people just dunno how to use it (or do that on purpose, but stuff like that is bound to happen on the Internet). Funny how custom ranks appear as a good idea while custom avatars do not. I don't know what is you guys' opinion on avatars, but in my eyes, they are pretty much part of the member's identity : the avatar kinda shows what kind of person you are dealing with. I think it makes people more recognizable. Also, I find it pretty funny to see this started because of the Pingas Covet mod.
