Were they? I used to be able to destroy the car almost completely with no "spikes" or errors of any sort.
It's true. Damage model is good but I talking about roof. It is impossible to rip of canvas or roof frame, at least in 0.8.
I have the Cadillac mod too, in fact I updated it to 0.8. It will need a much stiffer front suspension control arms and the rear leaf spring suspension updated to current L-beam setup to work properly with current higher grip L-beam tires. I hope Mythbuster will update it some day. I haven't looked at the Cadillac jbeam yet, but the roof mechanism is very different from the Datsun's. The top in the Cadillac folds completely into the compartment behind the rear seat using articulated frame, but the Datsun is so-called fixed-profile convertible, in which only the center part of the roof slides back along the rails and accordions into the compartment behind the rear seat. There are couple of problems when designing the mechanism. First, how to make the top to accordion into the compartment and second, how to keep the mesh from spiking like crazy when it folds on itself. If the sliding top fails, I'll make something similar to the Cadillac's top. Anyhow, there will be a convertible version of the Satsuma some day.
I can already tell by the complexity of this (↓) that the frame won't be stable even if the folding mechanism works completely. By the way, i think i've got something that'll help you/everyone understand what you mean by that.(↑) The new MX-5's hardtop convertible folds/unfolds the same way. I think. Here: After the 34th second, he talks about it. (and shows)
I think it's closer to the canvas roof seen in many european citycars of the same era, the window frames act like fixed rails and stay up, while the center of the roof slides and retracts rearward.
In most cars (that i've seen), the roof goes above the window line (about 5~10cm/1.9~3.9inches), to "undock" from the windshield, then retracts/folds.
OMG WANKEL!! Thanks so much. Im so done with the SBR4 and will get one of these!! But now the most important question of them all: Will it fit on moogs honda?
Mod is good, quality is beautiful but it is kind of too big and the front grille deformation is not good. It doesn't bend.

In the next update, you can add a little bit weight to the steering wheel. (For the force feedback steering wheel users.) It is too light, steering doesn't feels like a all heavy manual steering, it just feels like a electric motor assisted steering, no feel at all. Ibishu Miramar's steering heavyness is a good match for this.
I used Miramar's FFB setting for the steering, but it probably needs some adjustments, since the steering geometry is so different. I only have worn out ancient Logitech Wingman Formula Force GT wheel myself and there is not much difference between the cars with that. The FFB will be fixed soon, because the wagon update is nearly ready, hopefully I can release it tomorrow.
Thanks for your fast response. This mod is really good and I hope you can fix existing bugs nicely. I hope you can create a eastern european model to the variations. (I'm not russian but I find russian cars interesting.) Maybe like a cross brand model (Like fiat 124)
