I've been thinking about making my own desktop so I can run Drive at above the short bus settings...:p Anyways I don't have a huge budget and I was thinking of using an Intel i5 4670 or 4670k because I know that the i5 can run Drive and it's not terribly expensive but I was hoping for some opinions on a graphics card. I was looking at an NVidia GT 640 2gb GDDR3 and if that wouldn't be quite powerful enough then I might be able to get a GTX 650 Ti boost 2gb GDDR5. If you guys don't think that either of those will be able to run with all high or med-high settings then I would like to know what would. Thanks.

If you are a 1080p you will need a 7950/760 to max it (post FX and everything.) A 7870/660 should get all high without postFX while a 7850/650ti boost should get medium. My 7770 handles all normal at 60fps, maxed out it gets ~25. Even a 7850 is bunches above the 7770 due to it being a pircarin GPU. All of these cards have rebrands in the new series, except the 650ti boost I think.
Yes the gt 640 is too slow.

A GT640 isnt much more powerful than integrated graphics, totally useless card for gaming really. The standard 650 also isn't very powerful, Ti will run BeamNG ok, but really for gaming the bare minimum to consider would be a GTX760 or on a budget 660 but I would seriously wait and save the extra cash for a 760 rather than getting the older card.

4670 vs 4670k difference is only overclocking. The 4670k can overclock, whereas the 4670 is limited on that front. Should be a good choice either way.

Check if the motherboard you are choosing can output video from the HD4600 graphics onboard the CPU (some gaming motherboards do forgo the video outputs on the assumption you will have video outputs on your dedicated GPU instead). If it does, then you might be able to spread the cost out by not buying a graphics card right now and adding one in a few months time when you have saved up some more money.
