I own all flatout games currently, I was just playing flatout 1 like 5 min ago , btw, this thread has been non-stop today!
They mentioned they were going to implement a tactical damage system like in Demolition Derby and that's obviously been disabled / not yet implemented in the tech demo. It doesn't even have a cockpit view like in some of the videos. The tech demo is probably running on old tech anyways; someone did an interview playing it 3 months ago and I doubt Bugbear has done anything dramatic to it since. Still, they read their forums regularly so everyone post your feedback there!
So i guess they made them nearly indestructable in the sneak peek for fun. Still dont know my opinion on that. Nonetheless its pretty good. wish you could use all the diff cars though. (unless im an idiot and havent noticed it ) not sure if i cant link the source or not, so i wont just incase
For me the damage is fine apart what everyone already mentioned with the car driving perfectly if it is crushed to a 50cm x 50cm block. It will surely be great if you have to be carefull to not crash your car in a race if it deforms so easily I like that. Small quickly done low-quality video
I wish BeamNG had moving items too. Car crusher+ Soft body Physics = absolutely amazing. Wouldn't mind a giant hammer either. Or a thing that pushes your car into a wall.
Im sure in the future there will be. tbh when i ordered it i though there was going to be something like that (some ridiculous destruction machine). But yeah hopefully anyway. Not to get to off-topic. I cant stop getting launched from the cannon into the props, so fun lol. And that was a good video nadeox, i liked it.
If their approach to simulating a vehicle actually involved simulating a car held up by 4 wheels, there wouldn't be anything for them to "disable" for the car to drive perfectly with missing/bent wheels, but it seems like they're using a sliding brick model (even though they claimed that the damage realistically affects alignment). For example in BeamNG we could make the driveshaft, halfshafts, and tie rods never break, but the car would still get alignment damage from bent suspension or the entire car being bent. You can bend the whole car or have a wheel clearly bent 20 degrees one way and the car drives perfectly normally in NCG.
its good fun, but its not got the class/finesse of beamng. Sure things like the hammer and car blenders are cool but its a little to unrealistic at the moment, i had my car broke flat to the back wheels and it still drove fresh, i would like to know if we would ever be able to have 24 or more cars in beam ng with out our hardware having a stroke ??
I'm not fond of the AI they just demonstrated. It doesn't use the back of the car at all like you would in a demolition derby. Its composed entirely of the kamikaze bunch who off themselves in the first 30 seconds with no effort to save their engines at all. No evasive driving that would protect their wheels from damage. This is going to be yet another flat-out game where I don't bother at all with the demolition derbies. Dumbly flying around at top speed waiting to win. No strategy and no challenge from the AI.
lol... Is that not how every flatout game has been? And you say there's no strategy to the derbies... Tell that to those that are ranked in the top 10 in Flatout Ultimate Carnage
tried it out at a friend house, quite fun, damage is somewhat gta iv like, with how rediculous you can get while still being drivable (meaning the wheels still touch the ground, and can move the vehicle) got some pretty good damage as well, cube car, hehe - - - Updated - - - was watching someone stream it, look what they did(LOLOLOLOL):
To be fair, the past FlatOut games allow for respawning in derbies and the winner is judged by highest score, not last standing. The "no preservation" attitude of the AI works best in that environment.
this is why I tend to stay off fourms... its a GAME!! if you like it buy it if you don't, don't buy it. doesn't matter how real it is or how real its not, if its not fun to play then in the end a consumer wont buy it. and to further my point if what is listed is true then a lot more pc's will be able to run it then BeamNG. and frankly I was sold on the car crusher!!! again, realistic or not, fun is fun.
i thought as much, but if you turn on the ai cars, you'll see that there's this little hatchback putting around maybe in the next update to it?
