    Am I able to use 3DS Max or Google Sketchup to create car models

    sketchup is not really recommended but yes you could. 3ds is what some of the devs uses if i remember correctly. but if you wanna go for freeware everyone would highly suggest blender.

    Btw 3DS Max is free if you are a student as with any other Autodesk software.

    yeah i keep forgetting about that. i got used with blender tho so i prefer blender.
