To find out press alt+f4 then look it up then sit in a corner and think about what you said.

You misunderstood me. I WILL buy the game. Just not mods. And I like the Idea of buying and selling mods for ingame money. Maybe you get a fixed amount for every download and an added bonus if it gets high ratings?

Concerning piracy, and speaking for myself, i believe in the good will of players. This is why i absolutely hate all DRM stuff. Companies that use that, start from the point of view that players are not trustworthy.

In general we hope we wont' have to worry about piracy.

Yes, in-game money would be cool to buy and sell mods. but I think that selling mods for real money is kind of stupid. Especially for people like me who can't afford x amount of dollars for a pc game mod every week or so.

If you can't afford something, why do you expect it to be given to you for free?

If mods were to be paid, there would have to be some sort of quality control. I wouldn't pay $5 for some shitty box on wheels that a 12 year old made in 5 minutes. In-game career money sounds cool though and would be rather fun.

If someone were selling a shitty box on wheels for $5 nobody would be forced to buy it. So I don't see why that's an issue. That said, in any kind of situation like this, it's a given that there will be quality control.

try it before you buy it. Simulate this mod for five minutes before its automatically removed and you have to purchase it type deal. That'd serve as quality control. Because we can try before we buy people are pressured into making lots of effort to make things highly sought after.

The trouble with that is that if the file is already downloaded to someone's computer locally, what's to stop them from reverse engineering the files and using it for free indefinitely? We don't want to lock anyone out of editing files.

so the idea that I have in regards to testing is that the creator uploads two files. A pay for version, and a trial version. The trial version is locked down but free to download only once for a few minutes and the creator can supply the trial version covered in watermarks with the interior missing, no materials, no detail etc. Maybe with the node/beam altered, say they removed the back half of the car or all it's bodywork. You could get an idea of the vehicle's quality from playing with a sample. The idea again, entirely voluntary.

If I buy a mod I want to use it alongside the standard cars in the game and its no use if the mod is unrealistically strong or unrealistically fragile in comparison to the game's official content. A standard has been set by the official content, I want mods to meet that standard. So would a developer's seal of approval and official rating be something to consider? The seal of "I'd release this as official game content if I could" be a possibility? because I'd trust something rated highly by you and tdev/lifter, because you've spent years perfecting the physics behavior of the content you create and have released the only content on RoR that I play with regularly.

The idea here is that the creator voluntarily sends the mod in to be reviewed and you give the yes or no. Without trying it myself, I'd have to wait for good feedback from someone who's opinion I respect.

If there were some sort of official "store" for 3rd party content it'd all need approval before being sold there, so yeah.

But what other company sells MODS? I understand if you sell DLC, and and I will gladly pay for that. But who would want to buy other people's mods with real money?

Here's an idea: Don't buy them.

If someone choses they want money for their mods, and they are allowed to ask money for them, and you don't want to pay for it, then don't get it.

Maybe you don't realise but some people make mods with the same quality as the DLC from developers. Others make boxes with wheels. Noone forces you to buy either, but if they do ask money for it, YOU should NOT get the mod without paying, it's as simple as that.

You're really just very VERY selfish. Modders spend months and months on a vehicle to make something decent, and you just think "If it's not from the developers, it can never be anything better than a box".

If the developers allow modders to sell their stuff, it is the modders choice to sell it or not. It is also the modders choice on what the price of his/her vehicle will be. Let's ignore the fact that there might be quality checking from developers, and let me give you an example: If I decide I want to make a shitbox with wheels and sell it for 500 US Dollars, I can. I'll show pictures of it. Hopefully noone will buy that, because if someone does, they must have litterally no brain. If I decide I want to put my 1949 Cadillac mod for download for free, I can do it. If I decide I want to sell my Cadillac for like, 50 cents I can do that. Some people will not want to pay for my car, and that's fine, but that just means they won't get the car(hopefully, cause if someone then decides to give mods out for free, that's just pathetic). If I put my car up for download for 10 dollars, I can still do that. However, maybe apart from 1 or 2 people, noone will buy it, which would make me rethink my price probably.

Long story short, if the devs allow us to sell our mods, its up to the mod author what their price will be(if any). It's up to people like you wheather or not to buy it.
If you think a mod is not worth spending money on, you don't buy it. There's no "Yes but it's ridiculous to pay money for your car because it's not official DLC so I DEMAND I get it for free".

The arguement that no other games ask money for their mods makes no sense either. If all your friends jump in a lake with aligators, does that mean you will too? No, no it does not. So if no other mod authors ask money for their mods, that does not mean modders for BeamNG can't do it either. Besides that, I can think of a few: Gmod has become a full game, so has Counterstrike(yes, in 1999, that was a mod!).

You can jump high and low about this, but in the end, if the developers of BeamNG allow us to sell our mods that's their choice, and you have pretty much no input on their decision whatsoever. However, I do believe a lot of modders will no ask money for their mods, or if they do, very little, so I think you're not making any valid points whichever way you turn it.

There's being picky, then there's being greedy. Come on man. People like Mythbuster are on the road to getting up to Gabe's standard. Making these mods does take work. I'm starting out with borrowed meshes and a bunch of personal projects in RoR. I can tell you that there's a significant amount of work involved. There's a difference between me saying "I want to be able to make sure that a mod is up to a certain standard before I buy" and you coming along with the idea that all mods should be free. If you make a mod and want to get some compensation for it when it's used, then that should be your prerogative. At-least when you pay for something you don't have the obligation to be 'grateful' and then have a good ground to complain about whats wrong with it.

    "All mods should be free!!?"

    DayZ? ^^

People making mods are helping both the community to get more content, and the developers them self by adding content to their game.
Having a small price tag on decent mods is just logical, as it costs time and money to make them.

Look at Valve and their shop on steam. Modders are now starting to be able to make a decent buck from it, and thats the new trend and I like it, seeing as I'm able to make mods my self, and I will. And for my work I do want a little in return if I can.

I have always assumed that people make mods just for fun, as well as to contribute to the community. I don't mean to disregard anyone's hard work, especially you Mythbuster. Your car looks amazing so far. I can't imagine how much time and effort goes into making mods, so sorry if I have offended anybody.

BTW, I never said that all mods should be free, although it was one of my assumptions.

I'll have to agree with Luke198, I think free DLC should be the standard when buying the game first off. I mean, when I buy BeamNG, I would not like paid DLC, because that will be a turn-off point.

Free DLC = Less money for the developers own stuff though, equals to less content.
    Payd DLC = More content.

So for the games own future development I hope for payd DLC content in the future.
