a material.cs file tells the game where the material for the model is in the file. you can use Paint.net or GIMP
I'm trying to create new texture files for a little project I'm doing and I'm trying my best to follow the wiki guide to create these texture maps, but I don't know how
I can't really teach you how to make normal maps, texture-talking as I haven't tried yet, but if you just want to know how to generate them, there is plugins existing for Paint.net and Gimp that do it.
