Hey Guys, I am sure some of you might of heard to the tragic death of Paul Walker (Fast and Furious). He was killed in a Porsche 911 crash. I remember, people said "cars don't explode when they crash". Then what happened to Paul? Please explain.

(If the crash had some how ruptured the fuel tank, then I think the dev's should consider car explosions like that.)

It was a Carrera GT, and it didn't explode. It was wrapped around a tree and then caught fire. If it had exploded there'd be tiny scraps of car in a radius around the crash site and no recognizable remains.

^Yep. You can find pictures of it if you wish. I believe it was an oil leak, and later a gas fire by what people have told me.

Rather difficult to get petrol or diesel to explode anyway (vin diesel is a different matter, just watch any of his films and his characters seem to explode into fits of rage). Ignite yes (or in reality, they dont like to ignite too much either, too much air and they wont go, too much vapour and they wont go), and the fires do spread quite rapidly, but they are not explosions.

the first few movies were *good*
but things like this just go to show what happens when you have a lot of money, a fast car, and are probably DUI, probably, but I guess we'll never find out.
probably got high and felt like doing some crap from his movies.

He was passenger, his friend was driving them both to a charity event, he was pretty big on philanthropy.

Cars do not generally explode unless rigged with explosives. If oil or fuel was to leak onto the Hot Exhaust ect that may cause a spark or heat anything that may be causing a spark at the time will cause something to go up in flames if you ever watch a Racing Incident there is normally a few seconds maybe a few minutes before it catches fire.

Come to think of it, the only videos I have seen of vehicle fires being near instantaneous are the classic ford pinto example and also an accident in which a car left the road surface, rolled and then hit one of the green boxes you see by roads in the UK housing telecoms equipment (read: electricals) - with its fuel tank.
Other vehicle fire videos are much slower to develop, as said above, a few minutes until the fire actually appears at all.

The lithium batteries in an electric car might be more potent than petrol fires, but are highly contained to the battery bay.

Seems to be a thing with Porsche's.

First we had Ryan Dunn, he crashed his Porsche and it set on fire.

Now we have Paul Walker, same thing again.

    Very sad. :(

Because Porsches are more prone to oversteer with the majority of their weight being in the back. You'd have similar cases if the original VW Beetle was faster than it is.

speaking of that, i saw a flipped over beetle yesterday, either the roof is strong, or that thing is lighter than it looks.

Original weighed about 800-850Kg. So lighter than most cars but not ridiculously light.

Wow, that's really insensitive. I don't even like Fast and Furious, but what you just said...holy shit. Imagine if he was a beloved family member and someone said that to you.

It looks like a thing with Porsche GTs. Not sure though.

Yeah, he was selling rides in his car to gather funds for the Philippines.
See above, dip. I don't know why you would say that without looking it up. I didn't even know he existed before this, but he died on his way to a charity event. I know that, come on.
