I have a laptop with a really nice processor in it, but the GPU is hopeless. I'm wanting a kind of FPS saving "fog" option that can save me some fps

My laptop has a 2.5ghz Core 2 Duo T9400 running at 2.6GHz (I found an extra .5 multiplier) and an overclocked Quadro NVS 160m. (It has a really good heatsink) When using a stock vehicle the CPU bottlenecks and in grid it gets about 20-25FPS on lowest. Using a stripped vehicle (Missing doors/panels/bumpers/etc) the CPU and GPU are pretty much equal and make 60fps. (Windowed mode) I would like to be able to turn off shadows and other unnecessary stuff. (Maybe options to turn off grass and trees completely?)

My netbook gets 2-3 FPS on lowest with a D15 that has nothing but suspension and a cab. Both the CPU and GPU are awful. (The Atom in it is supposed to be overclockable but SetFSB just spits out an error every time)

no but yeah, best thing to do is turn off post fx

I have it off, and get a steady 30 frames on high everything, on a TV

Really? Ive had that game for a LONG time. I want to experience something more beautiful than RoR, and BeamNG.Drive is exactly what I asked for. I just need my laptop to actually do full focused power on BeamNG. I already set the settings of my laptop to full power, but it does NOTHING! LOL!!!

I remember my Latitude D630 with Intel GMA graphics handling RoR better than my desktop at the same settings. (Desktop was a P4 3GHz with a overclocked 7600GS. It really needed a reinstall of Windows but I just used my laptop.)

I'm using my netbook right now.. I wonder..

    Downloading RoR. Will report results.

once i get a new hdd as well as a usb optical drive for my laptop, and im done installing windows vista Home Premium (what was on it, and always has been :p, ive never had a problem with vista personally) ill try out ror on it :p but yeah, a fog option for people who dont have a powerfull enough gpu would be nice, as my cpu is powerfull enough, i just cant afford a dedicated gpu atm

Well as a programmer speaking just adding fog does not help the fps at all, it can actually get worse when the fog is calculated as shader.
What you need is LOD / adjustable draw range ... so independent objects get either less triangles or get completely removed from the render-pipeline once it is not in your view.

... and i would assume that Torque already has that stuff implemented.

Well, in N-Labs with something like the default DAF truck or default bus it's pretty playable with 15 FPS. (Minimum 350m visibility) Using Gabesters 49 Ford it goes down to 3 FPS and the car is white. (Had the same problem once on my Dell with Intel graphics. Fixed by changing a setting I don't remember.)
