    DrowsySam's FT40: Bolide-FT40-V1-2
(most of it also applies to this post)

Everyone knows the Bolide handles extremely bad. The FT40 changed that, using AWD. But even that started to uncontrollably oversteer at higher speeds. So... what to do?

    Exactly.

    q1Z0CbD.png

    Put a wing on it!

This way, the car handles much better, whatever you do. Just don't drive without a wing, it will handle the same way as a regular FT40!

This car has some changes/improvements (of course):

    New color
    Rearwing that actually works
    Slightly more power (+75hp)
Redone gearbox and engine, now even better and faster!

Both, stock and gymkhana engine removed
    Stock gearbox removed

    Have some screenshots:

It's WIP, I still have to work on the collision and I have to change the color, but I think it's ready for a beta release now, right?

This car is a separate vehicle so it wont overwrite anything!
    (not even the FT40!)

    Credit goes to:
    Gabester: Original Vehicle
DrowsySam: Body kit mods and mesh editing
 (special thanks for helping me with the wing's nodes and beams!)
DevinXXL: Rear wing mesh, improved handling, Engine overhaul, speed, gearbox, differential etc!

Please post as much feedback as possible! This will help improve the car even more!

I like the idea, but the stock Bolide doesn't handle too badly. The problem lies in 12-year-olds brainwashed on completely unrealistic games like Forza and NFS. Still, looks cool.

That's right, but no car simply starts to spin at 200km/h.

Well… some do, but using a wing on these also helps. That's what I did.

Bolide doesn't do that anymore in the new update. Also, adding AWD is not the magic band-aid that makes cars handle good. The Bolide doesn't even have halfshafts in the front, nor a driveshaft, nor a front differential, nor would it even be possible to add these things without remodeling the entire front suspension. Same with all the Moonhawk and Covet AWD mods... they don't make any sense. Cars can be made to handle lots of power just fine with 2WD if they're tuned properly. The suspension and tire changes coming in the next update fix the Bolide's veering issues, and it's still RWD.

That's why it's still WIP. I'm waiting for the update so I can use the new bolide.
I know, but without any traction control and 600hp power, there was no other way of driving with keys.
I know, but as I said, there was no other way to drive with keys only (and some people like gymkhana, which requires AWD :p)
Also, why do you say this now? Why didn't you already say that when the FT40 came out or when I created the AWD a month ago? ;)

And please, don't tell me this was impossible and just ignore a flying bolide with thrusters and a wing on top :p

That's exactly what I've been waiting for all the time. I deleted the front diff yesterday because I forgot about the power and wanted a more realistic car. Then I had to add it again because it was absolutely undrivable without some kind of steering wheel and I was unable to add some kind of traction control. The FT40-R will change a lot as soon as the update is released.
Also, the AWD was never intended to fix those issues :D

Thanks for the Bolide btw, it's a great car! I know how hard it is to get cars like this working, you did it anyway. Thank you for that :D

To be fair, we couldn't make anything fly in this physics engine that really couldn't fly. That wasn't done with magic, that was aerodynamics. The only thing properly unrealistic about is is there's no fuel and fuel mass simulation.

Okay then. Put wings on a car like this and start to fly with a real car. Then come back and tell me that is actually realistic.

I know it's done by the physics engine but so is the AWD ;)

If someone theoretically built a bolide and then put wings and magic thrusters on it irl, why wouldn't it fly?

I don't think the wings will stay connected to the car when done like that one. That's why nobody has ever built a car like this.. I guess.
I forgot to mention that the wings won't be able to carry a car, they're way too small. ;)

Well... magic thrusters. Same for magic front wheel diff :p

As I said, I will remove it anyway, I didn't even add it. Was in the FT40 all the time.
Whoever doesn't like it, ctrl+w, simply remove it from there. Never said it would work irl. I just didn't remove it because it's required for keyboard users (at the moment) and it can be fun to drive (without the wing) ;)

I just finished the wing. Collision working fine, color changed to black, now I have to wait for the "Race" update.

Also, why are you all saying that AWD is bad? Everyone liked it in the FT40...

eh... Look at the jbeam structure of the plane bolide. It's more relevant than the visible mesh.

That's what I've been working on. It doesn't look much better than before but when switching off debug mode, you won't even notice that. I tried to make it look like the wing itself but that didn't quite work, that's why it looks the way it's looking now.

To be honest I don't really know what we're arguing about anymore. wouldn't having a 4wd car with no halfshafts and diffs be the same as if the bolide plane had no wings or thrusters modeled, but flew anyway?

Nope. It would need much bigger wings, so it basically is the same :p

The AWD is going to be removed anyway so there's no reason for anyone to be upset about it. There is nothing to argue about :D

He's right. Whenever I created rFactor mods, nobody ever downloaded them because they weren't like forza "and forza is the most realistic sim ever!!11". That or "too much realism, can't handle" (so basically the same as the bolide with RWD, undrivable without proper gaming devices and they were used to the trains.. sorry.. understeering "cars" of nfs and forza.)

    I guess it's the same with BeamNG.drive

Well, everyone competent here understands that the Bolide handles realistically and know that you just need a light touch with it. And also, along with the impossible AWD there's also the problem of the tripled engine power (yes I know an improvement over the stock FT40). Though i guess I understand your reasoning. I like your mod for this, it's really the stock FT40 thats the problem. Sorry if I'm stepping on anyone's toes with my comments.

Download link removed now. And I won't ever release a mod again.

    It's just too funny.

Someone took a car from a game, released a mod with tripled engine power and AWD instead of RWD (optional), many likes and comments like these:
Then someone else took that car and put a wing on it. No likes and comments like:

And some people even like these comments. What's wrong with you?

Don't tell me this is possible IRL
    JTeZyR9.png
    And this isn't
    vdWxyLC.png

I won't ever stop modding, just like I still create rFactor mods. But it's the same here, I will never release anything because of people like you.

Anyone who's still intrested in my work, there's a PM button.

Well, I love this mod :) I just removed the front DIFF.
I know this forum can be a little mean and immature sometimes, and there are people who doesn't care about other people and their creations. It reminds me of the battlefield 4&3 forums. Always full of whiners and immature pricks that can't give a simple compliment or even a constructive comment, but there are some nice people too in both forums though.
