http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJbLhb4WzI4 Yes we might all know that the PlayStation 4 is coming out later this year and the specs are great as well, with 8gb of Ram, and an 8 core processor its sure to impress...... The BeamNG engine may work on this machine which i feel it can do......Anyway here is some gameplay of a racing title for the PlayStation 4
I've got to say. We've had 8 core processors (i7 Bloomfield) since 2008 so it's not impressive as far as I can tell. They're 5 years behind as consoles will always be outdated compared to PCs.
The good thing about consoles though is that developers only make their game for one hardware configuration. So its easier to get nice graphics running smoothly on a Console than a PC. No need to think about and test for thousands of hardware configurations.
FIY The I7 has 8 processing threads, but only 4 physical cores. (except the high end and extreme versions which have 6 cores and 12 threads and prices upward of $1000) The PS4 can't cost more than half of that. But anyhow you can't compare processors just by the number of physical cores. Personally I'd have preferred less cores and more clock speed. Its damned hard to efficiently use 8 threads in games. Anyway they said that the specifications of the ps4 are not final yet. If they're saying that it means its all bullshit. 8GB of GDDR5? I think we'll se an annoucment later that it is only 4GB or not GDDR5. Even the most expensive $600-$800 video cards have only 6GB
The PlayStation 4 specs are final, they have been disclosed, look at them it is a 8Gb of dedicated memory and an 64 bit Jaguar x86 8 core processor and another background core for background process's and the RAM is high-speed GDDR5 . The GPU is custom made by AMD and is based on the Radeon 7000-series desktop graphics cards. It?s capable of 1.84 TFLOPS of processing power. So basically its a AMD Radeon next-gen 7670 HD graphics.......Its pretty powerful compared to the 512mb of the PS3 so there is lots of potential for this machine.....
Don't lecture me on i7 CPUs. I know it's only 4 real processors but once the cache is split in two each core runs and acts like an independent core so it makes no difference. Also, it's most likely DDR3 as DDR5 isn't supported by current processors. Also, a 7670? It's already out of date on both playing fields before it's even released.
I'll wait until it's released to see that. I haven't seen any processors that support DDR4 let alone 5.
Its not like they only take components from the PC world and slap it in. They of course develops them further. So saying that the AMD GPU is 100% the same as the PCs equalent 7670 is wrong, seeing as it now shares the memory alongside with the CPU for one. The architecture is just the base, they of course develops that further. Just do a simple google search and you'll see more specifics.
Because of consistent hardware development/updates (unlike consoles that update every 5/6 years) I feel that PC's are better 'consoles' <- that's if you want to compare a PC's gaming ability to a console's.
Yes, Pc's will always have that advantage of being above in hardware specifications from the results of Moore's law thus being able to have better graphics if you're on the high-end of the scale. But Consoles are easier to create games for because of that one single hardware configuration (except PS3 wth its cell shit) of the console. Just look at the newest games to PS3 and xbox360. With their outdated hardware, its pretty amazing what the developers are able to do with it. And I really don't think you need better graphics than what PS4 is able to give you with the recent games shown in the presentation. And you have to take in to account that the games will look even better as they get to know the consoles hardware and its limits.
Ok everyone calm down........ Here are the "Official" specs released by SONY........ GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7000 series custom GPU Between around the 7850 and 7870 clocking in at around 1Ghz CPU/Processor: Custom AMD Jaguar x86 8 core 64 bit processor supposedly clocking in at 2Ghz if pushed and 8GB of unified GDDR5 RAM Online: RAM capable of 176GB/sec of bandwidth. 802.11n WiFi, Yes they not might be as good as a High-end Custom PC but it sure packs a punch and can compete with most stock computers.......This system has alot of potential so stop ruining it PC "enthusiasts" and let the PlayStation 4 Impress
Isn't Jaguar supposed to be AMD's low-power solution? (Both consumption and capabilities) I suppose it'll be perfect though considering it's plenty powerful compared to last gen (and even so compared to an i3-FX6xxx Series). As for GDDR5 RAM I guess I can see why they would, since the APU would require high memory bandwidth so why not give the whole damn thing shared GDDR5? lol. Simplifies the architecture a little (well.. not really).
If you don't want to be lectured don't spread bullshit. If you knew it its even worse, because it means you intentionally tried to distort the facts in favor of your opinion. A 7670 is truly low-end. But with better optimlaization they propably get much more out from that type of processing power. But I don't see it lasting 7 years.
GDDR5 is based on DDR3, however modified for use in graphics applications. It is not related to DDR4 or 5 any more than DDR3. It wouldn't surprise me that AMD can make the CPU use GDDR5, they have the graphics guys who've used GDDR5 since Radeon 4000 and the CPU guys were the first to put IMCs in their CPUs.
The GPU IS NOT running on the quality of a 7670, its running on the power of say a 7850 or even 7870. Read my posts before you say something that is incorrect and yes he was incorrect as well...... Also the RAM is Unified 8Gb memory so its shared throughout the console and there is also another background CPU to cover background processes........ Guys the PlayStation 4 is impressive dont doubt it.
