Don't know about the rarity, but I imagine an R32 GTS4 would be way cheaper than a similar condition GT-R. Could be wrong tho

If 90% of people don't know the GTST existed...
    Then 10% of people do.

Mathematics are somewhat my strongest suit.

A bit random, but it's worth noting that Doug DeMuro currently has 666 thousand subscribers on YouTube.

It would be cool if car builders could stop calling their ugly lifted hatchback and "SUV".

    I mean :

A riced lifted overpriced Polo? SUV!
    upload_2017-6-30_1-21-33.jpeg

    An ugly lifted prius? SUV!

    A lifted 308? SUV!
    upload_2017-6-30_1-22-46.jpeg

A Renault... ahm... Lifted thing? SUV!

    A lifted Mia... Wait

    Yeah hum, I mean :

    This is an SUV

    This is a small SUV

    This is a Crossover

    This is NOT an SUV

To be honest, SUV is a pointless term anyway. It stands for Sports Utility Vehicle. Every single vehicle in the above post (bar the MX5) is fairly practical, but none are sporty (bar the MX5). Which I guess makes the MX5 just as much of an SUV as the chevy you posted, cause it sure as hell ain't sporty.

That's the thing, SUV doesn't mean anything anymore, yes it didn't in the first place sure, but as Wikipedia say perfecly an SUV is "a large vehicle that is designed to be used on rough surfaces" but "is still used to describe nearly anything with available all-wheel drive and raised ground clearance." 30 years ago the second part of the definition wasn't a thing.

The term "SUV" only came into being in the early 90's, prior to then, 'Utility" or "Ute" is what things like Suburbans, Blazers, Broncos, Jeeps, IH Scouts, and whatnot were referred to as.

I can only assume that in an effort to increase sales of utes in the wake of downsizing full size cars and wagons, Manufacturers began referring to them as "SUV's" and marketing them towards the people who would have previously been buying station wagons.

Fun fact though, both of my '94 YJ Jeeps, 93 Suburban, 94 Blazer, and 95 Tahoe, were all still classified as "Utility" on their titles.

Cool K5 man. They tear up the sand and mud out in the Dunes here where I live. Them, the Broncos, and the Cherokees dominate most of the offroad vehicles out there around here at least. Of course 4Runners do pretty good too but are so expensive nobody wants to break them.

It's on the back burner at the moment, but I've got plans for it. I've got a 190K 1994 454 that I'm putting together for it. My end goal is to have a nice weekend toy that I could do some bracket mud drags with.

It's an 86 Custom Deluxe, absolute plain jane, bare bones truck, formerly Gov't owned. No options at all, power nothing, no carpet, vinyl seats, no AC, no radio, not even any gauges, you just get lights telling you you're overheating, or that you've got no oil pressure. It's got an SBC that I assume to be a 305, that has absolutely no power whatsoever, It can't even break the tires loose on wet grass, and that's not an exaggeration.
It does however have a TH400 and an NP208, both from an 84 K30.

I'm hoping to find some 049 or 781 heads, then a high rise dual plane intake of some kind with a 900 or 950, a Comp 270 or 280 cam, and some long tube headers. and then leave the bottom end essentially stock. Nothing crazy, but I'm hoping for a nice and mild 400 HP.

Besides that, either a 4 or 6 inch lift, and some 35-38 inch Super Swampers, which I'l run on the 10 bolt axles until they pop, then I'll put a 4.10 or 4.56 geared full float 14 under the back and probably rebuild the front 10, unless I can find a Dana 60 cheap enough.

On the outside, I eventually want to repaint it back to the dark blue it was originally, and maybe get some cloth seats for it.

Sounds pretty sweet man. The Cherokee in my profile pic is going to my neighbor, he's going to chop the cab, throw a 7 inch lift under it, swap it over to the Chrysler Magnum 5.2 and call it. He doesn't want to go through a engine rebuild so it's probably goin to be stock motor for a bit. I pointed him towards a Dana 44 Front axle swap so front and rear match (it's an 87 Laredo with towing package so it has a Dana 44 rear stock), and told him to get frame stiffeners, and gave him some links to a few low mileage sets of 4.88s that he can use. It's going to be his mud toy. My Grand is destined for a life of street driving. Doesn't mean it's going to be easy though I have a lead foot lol

    We've had a handful of XJ's, I used to have a 94 with a 4.0, and my dad had a 95 with a 4.0, and an 83 with 4.2.

Those 4.0's are absolutely unkillable, I wasn't super hard on that one, but I had a 94 YJ Wrangler with a 4.0 that saw some nasty-ness, and never skipped a beat.

My best friend had a 94 Grand Cherokee that he wanted to put an SBC in. It had a 4.0 that we tried to kill on several occasions, but never succeeded, It was ran wide open bouncing off the limiter for 10-15 minutes at a time, and never had a problem, the oil never got changed in it, just topped off every couple months, at one point the water pump let go and the fan "tunnel-bored" it's way through the radiator. we took the belt off and drove it home 40 miles without a drop of coolant, we were sure it was going to seize as soon as we shut it off, but nope, no adverse effects at all.

We were HARD on that Jeep, and it never cared, it just kept chugging along. When he got rid of it, it was burning quite a bit of oil, but still ran like a top.

And it smelled like bad cheese inside, we never could find out why.

Oh yeah I don't doubt it's bullet proofness. I love that little 4.0. He has a fascination with V8s. The only one that he allows himself for 6 cylinders is the 12v in his D250 pickup lol. Ol' Smokey rolls coal all over the Basin.

Oh, and we weren't just hard on it for a few months and then got rid of it, no, he had that Jeep for 4 years, and It never got a break. He still says the only thing he didn't like about that Jeep was that It wasn't a GM product.

My 12 Valve barely smokes at all, the only way I've ever gotten more than a little puff from it was if you were to try to take off in third.

From my personal experience, the only engine that is tougher than the AMC 4.0 I6, is the Mopar 318, so I think he'll be alright.

    "compact SUV"

    Wikipedia :
    peug2.png
    "crossover"
(Note : It is described as a mini SUV on the English Wikipedia)

Why are they using SUV to describe it ? Sure, it is higher than most cars, but... It's more of a crossover than anything.

I also fail to understand the whole trend with SUVs. A lot of people (obviously, not the kind to be really interested in cars) seem to think SUVs are the best thing in the automotive world.
I can understand some SUVs are cool. My uncle has a black Hyundai Santa Fe which is pretty comfortable. I think it wasn't as expensive as other SUVs -- he bought it for a little more than 30 000€, and it was the luxurious package with an auto -- and it looks good (in my opinion).

However, I have no idea how good it would be off-road.
But there are a lot of cars to choose from, on both the new market and on the second hand market, so why only liking new SUVs ?
For example, I don't find the Audi Q-series really appealing.

Is that even a SUV or another crossover ?

    Ugh what.

The Q3 looks okay to me, but I can't understand the interest for the Q5 and the Q7.

Yes, maybe those cars are big and great (maybe, but it's not the case for all in my opinion) but... Are such vehicles some kind of "must-have" ? Doesn't seem to be the case to me.
