Multiplayer would be some much fun. Just imagine 20 people in different cars of their choosing and ramming into each other. Missions would be fun like for example: Use Covet to jump over a tree. (any map, 80mph) or something like that.
20 people? most people can't even handle 2 cars at the same time. Unles all calculations are done on the server.
But then the internet.. In a typical game, when a car moves, you send the position, velocity, etc of ONE object; the car itself. In BeamNG, when a car moves, it's actually hundreds of nodes moving, and you would have to send the velocity, position, etc of all of them, then there's also the beams, which can count to about 4k. So while it is processor heavy, it's worse for the internet. Though I may be wrong, since RoR worked good
I think Ror worked good, because the only thing what have been sended to the other players was the "look of the model".
The game is alpha, you are paying for the version that normally wouldnt even be released to the public. You are paying for development copies essentially not a fully released game. Multiplayer last I checked was not a planned feature because of the issues with sending complex node/beam structures over the internet with low latency. Missions are a planned feature. We're getting lap timing in the next update which we of course don't have now. Its an alpha game, its constantly evolving, this is how things are supposed to be right now. You can either deal with it, or simply not buy alpha's in future.
Should have clarified, my post was in the context of online, I've only seen references to local multiplayer. Although one could say that the online leaderboards coming in the next update are a multiplayer feature.
i have also seen refrences to multiplayer nut I am waiting for an admin to chime in to give us final verdict
