The roof of the car doesn't damage?

    Well no, that's not completely true man.

    Even on my cheap 90's hatchback, the trunklid is just as thick as any of the rear quarter panels. In fact, the thinnest pieces of metal are the front fenders, which only get their strenght from the ridges in the panels and the folds around the edges. The trunklid is a VERY solid piece in most cars. Hoods depend more on the era, on my car has a lot of structural support in it, but 50's - 70's cars often have a LOT of flex in the hoods, a lot of them even need to have 2 support-hinges to hold it up, instead of a stick on one side like modern cars... Problem is, to save polygons, most of the hoods in the game are modeled as flat panels, even though the structural support(which is shown in the normal map) would be at least an inch thick.

    From the right angles, they are able to support the entire car(they will buckle, of course, but they do in BeamNG too). From other angles, they'll fold up very easily.

    However, I do sometimes get the same feeling when it comes to the plastic bumper skins. Lots of older cars don't have the bumperbar attached to the bumper, but rather to the front of the car itself, so those bumpers would fold super easily. The sides of the rear bumper on the Grand Marshal for example used to support the entire car sometimes, which was a bit weird.

    Then you didn´t pay enough attention and looked at it closely. They bend, yes. But not enough at a normal rollover, just if the impact it high enough. It´s pretty obvious. If possible, I will make a video.

    Well, good example and I agree that trunk lid and hood are not completely thin as paper, at all with the support structure. But I disagree that they are able to support the car, at all not at a rollover when forces and car weight are fully impinge on trunk lid and hood. Here´s a small video with short clips showing that the hood and trunk lid are very stiff in first moments, influencing and affecting the rollover angle of a car that much that they are often pretend the car from landing on it´s roof which could often lead to the impression the roof doesn´t bend (just because the car didn´t land on the roff but the hood/ trunk lid deflected the landing). It also show how trunk lid and hood can carry the car upside down (which would never happen IRL IMO). Also IMO the trunk lid and hood are opening a bit too easy. Everytime the front or rear are hit on a ramp they open up.

    Nevertheless, it´s just a detail and a bit nitpicking and I don´t want to be hypercritical. It´s nevertheless a great product.

    Do you have any basis for these claims beyond "I think it's wrong"? I watched your video and all I saw was panels folding away like paper under the weight of the car, except for the one time that the stars aligned and it landed softly on the opened trunk and was propped up by it. The panels all have the weight and rigidity (roughly) of their real equivalents, so I trust whatever the physics engine does.

    I support gabster. According to the pressure it's correct. Roof most likely have big surface and this can lower the pressure on the roof and make it bending less - p=F/S - Newton/m^2
    Try bigger S with the same force and you will see the diffrence pressure working on the roof. Their physic is good, but you do not watch the videos thoroughly. It does bend, but not much, as it's correct.

    Now I must say sorry in case my english is not really good.

    I have noticed that sometimes when you roll a car the door won't come open but just the door gets smash and the roof is perfectly fine. This happens a lot. Probably the door opening at the last second but its strange when I flip the roof line is fine but the door frame is mashed.

    Well, I am not denying or doubting that any part doesn´t fold or bend. It does obviously and it does pretty well, but it doesn´t like paper. My only suggestion and critic on a high level is that the trunk lid and hood can carry the car weight even after their structure is already damaged by impacts (see my video at 0:42) while IMO it shouldn´t be able to hold/ lift the car in the air.

    I am not physics expert and can´t give you any numbers. But I tried to find a real life example of a car rolling over a hood. The best I could find is a rollover record by Top Gear when the car rolls over the completely opened hood at the last roll and the hood doesn´t give any resistance against the car weight but just folds like paper and tears off, even if its structure is pretty intact. While in my video the case is often that the structure of the parts is as strong as it can resist the car weight quite well to a certain amount of impact. Again, your physics engine is a great piece of engineering and works impressively well in real time. But I also hope that you are open for critics or suggestions.

    So, I found a way to try my suggestion out via opening the hood.jbeam- and trunk.jbeam-files for the car, then edited the "scalebeamDeform"- and "scalebeamStrength"- parameters to a lower value and edited the hood- and trunk-latch to a higher value. So now the hood and trunk lid are not that stiff anymore and collapse faster under the car weight and also the trunk lid and hood do not open that fast anymore at normal and stronger hits. Fits much better to my expectation. Thx

    That's a placebo effect - those values don't change a thing unless you change them universally across all of the vehicle's .jbeam files.

    I'm just not seeing any evidence to support your point. The hood folds under the car at 3:05 exactly like it does in BeamNG.

    Then I see no point in discussing this any further if you don´t experience what I experience. But saying that the BeamNG-car hood folds like the Sierra-hood in the video at 3:05 while the ingame-car can STAND on its hood and trunk lid (shown in my video) just shows me that I expect sth. different than you.

    Anyway, thx for your feedback.

    It stood on its trunk once under very special circumstances. The panels folded under with almost no resistance in every other rollover in the video.

    Although I agree with the premise of the hood/trunk issue and have seen what I believe to be strange instances of extraordinary strength of these
    in rollovers, it's just my one sided opinion and honestly does not detract from the awesomeness of the experience one bit.

    On the roof folding, I too was having doubts about "proper" roof deformation. Long story short, Gabester replied to my complaint with a screen
    of a covet half wrapped around a tree T-bone style, roof completely mangled into a "triangle', and firmly suggested I clearly wasn't "going fast enough".

    That was a couple months ago. I took the advice and made up some test environments to really get the damage cranked up. To this day I can get that wonderful
    roof bend at will. My next wet dream will be taking the semi broadside into the Grand Marshall at full speed.

    Thanks again to these guys who are obviously putting in incredible amounts of man hours and brain trust into something I personally never thought
    would EVER exist.
