Another diehard "ICE over everything" fanboy. Ever ridden in an electric vehicle? No? Be quiet then. I love both, and don't spend all day harping on about it.
My favourite is "but mah range", you can achieve a full charge plugged in overnight. You can also plug in at work etc provided there's power points available (my workplace has got them). Beyond that, most of the popular EVs do 200 miles. How often do most people do more than 200 miles in a day. I think it's a minority that even do that in a week. It does make roadtrips a pain in the ass. Not not like you do those often either. It's everyone that shouts and complains about range. Yet, it's only a tiny niche to need more than 200 miles range and to be able to fill the tank in 5 minutes. My boss reckons he's saved time in his Tesla with charging versus refueling. He gets home, he locks the car, plugs cable in and leaves it. Does the same at work. 75 mile commute in a Tesla roadster. It quite happily does home-work-home. His wife has a model S, the only time they've traveled beyond its range in it a there were super chargers on route and it was apparently quite pleasant to pull over, stick it on supercharger, go to toilets, grab some food and a drink and generally take a rest from driving so far in one go. --- Post updated --- Oh fyi for any prospective electric vehicle owners, provided it's lithium battery based (most of the current generation ones are). Lithium batteries charge from 0% to 50% significantly faster than 50% to 100%. In the Tesla, I think going from 0% to 100%, if we assume that takes 2 hours, you actually hit the 70-80% ballpark after 1 hour. Now charging doesn't actually take 2 hours, that's a number I've just made up and would actually vary on charger source and battery size etc, probably also only applies to supercharging as not all non superchargers can actually output the full charging rate for the battery, though the principle would still apply that it takes longer to top off the last half of the battery than the first half. If you are roadtripping a tesla and it's going to take 2 full charges, it's most time effective to plot a route to the furthest supercharger you can reach from start, get there, charge to 50 and then hit another charger, charge to 50, repeat. Though I've wondered if a battery trailer could be a viable idea
My family thought of buying an electric car but my dad and i cant drive them to work as most cheap ones dont have enough range and the ones wich had the range were to expensive like the tesla. Also we didnt see the point of getting my mom a electric car as the one we looked into was the leaf and it wouldnt be financially feasable to buy a 36000 euro car for a daily commute of 2km so we went with a rapid wich cost us 14000 euros
It's not about how much range you "need" in everyday use, it's about having the option to go farther if you want. With an ICE car, I can go out after work and go careening all over this valley, from one end to the other, as much as I want. No worries, no calculating charges, if I run out of fuel it's only a small delay. With an electric car, if I had one of the (very expensive) longer-ranged models, I could maybe go to one fairly far-away place, but then I can't come back and go somewhere else in the opposite direction, and if it's too far away, might not be able to take any detours on the way back. On top of that, the way I drive is going to eat my range alive. In other words, if the road is life, then electric cars are heartbreak. You will never get me to like the idea of a car that forces long trips into the "there & back on the shortest possible route" mold. I hope you're not being facetious here, because this is, from an enthusiast perspective, one of the other main reasons ICE is better. Well, that and the way their uber torque munches gearboxes. As far as I'm concerned, a life without a manual transmission is a life not truly lived.
We drive 50km there and 50km back and we have alot of concestion both ways also our car is fully loaded with 4 people everytime and we tested a leaf a couple days in the winter and it wouldnt make it there and back also we cant charge it there as the nearest charging point were we work is about 10km away so we have to stick to petrol or diesel
Early Tesla roadsters have 2 speed gear boxes, although they disabled them before sale because they didn't work well, presumably worried about reliability of the boxes. If memory serves me correctly Tesla offered to remove them free of charge after a while to reduce weight /complexity etc. Having been in a rwd lower spec Tesla model s all I can really say is that it was super quick, would love to have a ride in one of the faster dual motor models. I Have heard online of people selling the rwd Tesla's stating that they are "dangerous" and that they should have bought the 4wd model instead. Turns out most people don't feel at all comfortable in a car that sends that much power to its rear wheels with many of them stating that driving in the rain results in a lot of near crashes. I guess that is what happens when you sell high performance cars to people who don't care about / enjoy driving. Especially when they have had little to no training or experience of how to drive one properly.
Jut add in a law that states you have to have shown that you can power slide a rwd car in order to be allowed to drive on on public roads Although, be aware that this would nuke sales of rwd cars, meaning no one but enthusiast companies would continue to build them.
The "drift bill", well i'm screwed! When I see current ae86 prices the more i wonder whats wrong with the automotive world. You do realize you are paying alot for an 80s corolla. under 10k seems more realistic especially as its considered a "starter car" in racing video games.
They pay for the culture and significance of the car. I am also lead to believe it was a big deal in some anime thing too.
Are you accusing me of impersonating a Skoda dealer, making a fake ad with photoshopped pictures and posting a link here to make fun of electric cars? What's wrong with you? It is still a fact that someone traded their Tesla in for a Skoda. I just made a joke about these rabid Tesla fans on social media who are like "ICE sucks whoever likes it needs to rot in hell!!!!!". The way aforementioned people behave is not very nice, so why can't I make a joke about them?
So what its all image. The car itself is the most important thing in the end of the day. I just can't think about paying that for a light 80s coupe with a 1.6 DOHC engine and a solid rear axle when I can get something better for less. Like a KP Starlet.
Mostly because of the anime, methinks. Hachi-Rokus were popular in motorsports and among street racers, but nowhere near the cult status they gained with InitialD.
And you are the niche, you are a mere tiny fraction of road users, also one of the most narrow minded short sighted of that tiny fraction. Roads and the automotive industry aren't designed around you
