Where I live autos are reserved for luxury cars, and any car without a 6spd manual is expensive and called "rare auto"
umm, thats literally never happened in any auto car I've ever been in. Jeeps had that issue, but most autos don't. --- Post updated --- That certainly isn't the case in the USA
The USA has autos since auto makers put that in their cars and we like them. Also, in the USA an extra like $1000 or $2000 is not a huge deal when you're buying a car here and is worth it for most people. Also, a manual has pretty much the same thing as an auto except with more positions when it comes to gear selector things.
You won't be screwing around with your phone while driving if you have an extra pedal and stick to deal with. Go manual!
Manuals are also more reliable, especially true when looking at the older cars (first cars are usually old cars).
You should get in manual, it will be less expensive and more reliable than a automatic and you will get more experience, too, when driving other people cars is needed, because not everyone has a auto, you would not distroy theyr gearbox, because you would know how to drive a manual
I've seen people shift with their phone still in hand, and return to texting while driving. Never underestimate the power of stupid
