Re: (UPDATE 11-19) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI If you want, I can probably do some suspension work on it, since the original Covet uses independent rear suspension and the Golf doesn't. My real life car(a Seat Ibiza) uses the same suspension as the mk2 Golf(they're on the same platform), and since I'm putting mine in the game I've already got the n/b suspension working. Would just be a matter of making it fit on your modded Covet n/b. Send me a PM if you want And for fun-sies I could even build a Golf Country chassis under it... That would be fun
Re: (UPDATE 12-1) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Sorry for the lack of updates lately. I've had a ton of work to do over the holidays, and haven't had much chance to work on the car. Since the last update, I've been working on materials and textures. I tried numerous times to make the windows and lights translucent through blender materials, but it hasn't worked yet. I fixed the broken smoothing groups (the model looks significantly better now) and have working materials and textures for the rear left wheel. Once the wheels are done, I plan on texturing the engine based on some great reference photos I found. I also solidified the windows so both sides can be textured. Making custom UVs for the wheels has been fairly difficult, but I'm making progress. If anyone has some insight on how to make translucent textures though blender appear in-game, let me know. More progress coming soon!
Re: (UPDATE 12-1) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Now it looks much better I hope you have now some more time on your project cause i really like this car!
Re: (UPDATE 12-1) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Hey guys! I just wanted to let you know that my progress is going to be slow for the next two weeks. I have to deal with final exams. Once that's over, I'll have a ton of time to spend finishing this mod. Sorry for the delays!
Re: '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI I suggest not posting things like this, nothing worse than impatient kids who think their entitled to have everything and anything, ever before its even done! -.- read and think before posting
Re: '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Calm down please...stuff like that will get you hit with an infraction if your not careful....so please be careful
Re: '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI That's definitely not going to happen. I don't want to release anything until its ready. Please be patient and don't post comments like this.
Re: (UPDATE 12-1) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Well, I have to say, it looks simply awesome, can't wait till it's finished Please make justice to the Volkswagen Golf, it's probably my favorite car of all times haha
Re: (UPDATE 12-1) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Now that exams are over, I've had some time to work on the Golf. I made some decent progress over the past two days. Here are the changes since the last update: -MASSIVE thanks to Mythbuster for making a realistic front and rear suspension for the Golf -Model slightly scaled down to fit the current jbeam -Interior now has moving parts (steering wheel, pedals, wiper stalk, needles, etc.) using original animations from the Ibishu Covet -Fixed glass and light textures -Textured the engine and fuel tank using UVs (I've never used UVs before, so they aren't perfect) -Fixed the front bumper and exhaust pipe Next, I'm going to start working on the jbeam to make it fit the mesh properly. Here are some pics of the latest changes.
Re: (UPDATE 12-1) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Wow, seems really high quality! This is probably my favorite car ever, I would love to drive it in BeamNG D Edit: It would also be cool to see a project here on the forum that doesn't get abandoned in Beta state :s
Re: (UPDATE 12-22) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Some really great cars by Gabester himself and other users I just can't wait for new cars they are awesome
Re: (UPDATE 12-1) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Front too All suspension node positions are taken from technical blueprints from the real Golf. Won't get any more precise than that I'll still try to get a Golf Country chassis under it too. Was also quite funny to see how similar(almost identical) the mk2 Golf suspension is to my (real) Seat Ibiza, even though the Ibiza was introduced a good 10 years later than the Golf. Talking about dated technology... Looking forward to seeing this with textures. Good luck EDIT@below: Sorry, not going to post pictures in someone elses thread It's got it's own thread on the Rigs of Rods forums, with plenty of pictures
Re: (UPDATE 12-1) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Cool o: Do you have some renders or someting we could look at, I'm curious hahaha
Re: (UPDATE 12-1) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Hey Mythbuster, have you made any progress with your SEAT Ibiza? I think they are pretty interesting, and with your skills, I can only imagine how cool it will be! OT: I am liking how the Golf is coming along! Also, congrats with exams!
Re: (UPDATE 12-22) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI This looks brilliant man. An really interesting conversion project, great work Also if you need help with uv mapping or texture creation shoot me a PM
Re: (UPDATE 12-22) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI It´s now really awesome And as i can see there is a lot of progress been made! Can´t wait to see the final Golf
Re: (UPDATE 12-24) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI I spent some time editing the jbeam, and it turned out pretty well. Since the Golf mesh is very similar to the original Covet mesh, the original jbeam fits remarkably well. I tweaked a few things, particularly the bumpers and rear tailgate. It deforms much better now. Everything went smoothly except for the rear bumper. I couldn't edit it as much as I hoped to, since it would snap off when I changed it too much. It's pretty close though, so I'm not terribly concerned about it. However, I'm more concerned about some new material/texture issues I've discovered. Whenever the glass breaks on the windows or lights, it turns bright yellow. It isn't the "no material" orange either. It's just bright yellow. I've tried fixing it, but haven't made any progress. Plus, I can't rename the file without losing the engine and fuel tank textures. Anyway here are some before/after pics of the jbeam. More progress coming soon!
Re: (UPDATE 12-24) '87 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI Over the past three days, I redid all of the materials and textures on the model. The UV maps are painfully disorganized, but they work pretty well. I even redid my UVs for the engine. This is my fist time working with textures and materials, so it's far from perfect. The only thing left for the materials is adding reflections. Here are some pictures. More updates (and hopefully a release) coming very soon!
