How do I make parts for a vehicle?

    OK so I have been looking around for a Beavertail truck mod. I could not find any so I decided to make one myself. However there is one problem, I've never made a mod before. I want to be able to put a part onto the back of the Gavril H-series. I have the part made I just need to know how I can put it into the game. with collisions, textures, moving parts, etc...
    There are also legs at the back that need to move in and out to allow vehicles to get on and off.

    Is anyone able to help me with this?

    I tried to use the wiki but it only showed me how to make a vehicle and not just one part.
    Is it done the same way with a few little changes? If so what are these changes?

    Do you understand how the slot system works and how it allows you to link different Jbeam files together? The slot system is what allows you to add a Jbeam file (new part) to an existing vehicle.

    The wiki explains the specific use of the "mod slot", but this concept can be applied to all slots.

    Ok so I have made the .jbeam file, I did not bother with the info.json as the van already has one. However I created a info_beavertail.json file. I placed the .jbeam and .json files into the van files.
    The part shows up on the parts list but when I go to select it the game crashes.

    What am I doing wrong?
