Hello, This thread is meant to collect feedback regarding the new audio goodies available in update 0.10. You can find the changelog for this update here: https://blog.beamng.com/sounds-like-version-0-10-is-out/ Remember that is all work-in-progress stuff.
I'd like to see straight cut gear sound while driving in reverse, it would be pretty awesome to hear. Also I have the impression that the base model Moonhawks sound a bit too spicy for what they are (that's just my own opinion).
I am still downloading it, but the video seemed sounded pretty good. Especially the reverb part. Is it now possible to make the car sound different in let's say forest and a city? Or is it too taxing?
Yea that's definitely something we might want to look into eventually. Please keep in mind that the new sound system is still far from being finished, this is just the start of finally looking at sound related things, many more feature are yet to come
Love that there are now unique sounds, but the samples are, well, crap. They are low quality, and are a huge let down. I have set the audio quality to "High" which was a pretty good bump in quality compared to the horrible "Medium" setting (I don't dare try using "Low" with how bad "Medium" is), but they are still not very good. I hope to see improvements in coming updates, namely, higher quality engine samples, tuning of the tire sounds, which are sound a bit off to me, a little too loud I think, and better turbocharger sound management. It's wonderful that there are now more than 3 audio samples (slight exaggeration, but that's what it felt like before) in the entire game, but I'm still waiting for high quality audio. Thanks to @SuperNoob05 for the spectogram:
The new sounds are an incredible step foward, so since the new system is still in a early phase, I suppose some common things are being worked on. One of the things I noticed is, the interior filter works even with the windows gone and/or missing doors for example, but again, I suppose you are aware and will eventually be sorted, very nice work overall Also, can we expect some new crashing sounds? The ones still in the game are not bad, but could be better too.
Yep that's one of things I was referring to above There's a bunch of stuff that will get better over time or at least will be looked into.
So I do like the new sounds, but almost all of them sound muted, even in orbit mode. The sounds just don't sound raw and real. I hope that that is something that will be improved upon in future updates
i personnaly enjoy the new sounds, and my favorite is the Moonhawk/old style V8 sound. It makes my pils straight up on my arms, so good ! Other sounds are nice, the 4 cylinders is great especially on old cars. The one i like the less is the straigth 6 one, because i owned a lot of cars with such engines, and it's not satisfaying me. Sounds more like a 4 cylinders in very high revs. But overall feel is really cool and immersive for me. Straight cut gears could be good for race cars as well, that what i enjoy to hear in race simulations Great job guys !
i really like the new sounds didnt get to test all of them yet but it seems that the glass breaking sound are muffled too witch isnt to realistic
What is now missing, and i'm sure will be there at some point, is the muted down sound when we are in the car, that becomes an "exterior" sound when you crash the car and break the glasses.
It's really nice and enjoyable to have new sounds. But doesn't they sound a bit muffled? I feel like something isn't right.
From what I can understand, the original sound plays when you look at the engine from the front, but if you look at the exhaust it sounds muffled, to simulate the effect of the exhaust pipes on the engine sound. Ideally, there would be two different sounds (induction and exhaust) that would play dynamically in the same way as they do now. Assetto Corsa is a good example of this system being put into practice
One thing that seems a bit strange to me is how when you crash you can't hear the glass breaking from the inside.
First of all, just getting some more sound is a huge leap in playability for me. However, I tend to agree with crazikyle and Ulrichou86 that some of the sounds seem too muffled (this only applies to sports cars and other vehicles that would typically have a more crisp or raw exhaust sound). In the future, it would also be nice to have improved audio samples, surface activated sounds, gearbox sounds, and better impact sounds - some of this could already be in the works for all I know, though. That being said, y'all are awesome.
The T-series has sort of a audio pop when shifting, im not sure if this is my computer or if its intended. Update: If you give the K-Series short shots of gas between 1000 rpm and 3000 rpm you can also hear said audio pops
