Hi all, So I bought the game about 2 months ago, saw it from videos on YouTube.... just had to have it. I love the realism and model and have enjoyed the game up to now, I spend a considerable amount of time watching the crash compliations on YouTube! Lately though I've been getting bored of crashing one car into another or into a tree/wall or just driving around. I want the props that the YouTubers have or to race a car. I tried a car in AI chase or flee, but the AI is so dimwitted quicky got bored. Any ideas of how I can start enjoying this game again?
I haven't really tried them yet but I'd recommend checking out the user-made scenarios here: https://beamng.com/resources/categories/scenarios.8/
Make some mods ? i will always keep the game "enjoyable" for new content Consider the amout of time you have to invest tho. A car or a Map isnt made in 2 days
I agree with @NistingurA. If you want to make mods fast, you can make simple configs from vanilla parts or skins.
Hi, I dont have a massive amount of free time, its usually a hour here or there. I tired to add a prop to a map using editor but I just dont get it. Is there a guide on how to use the editor?
You don't add 'props/physics objects' with the editor. The editor can only be used to add 'static/non-physical objects'. If you want to add a physical object, you need to spawn it with the vehicle selector (The same menu you spawn vehicles with, scroll down). You can use the editor to place it where you want. Just pause the physics with J, select that object in the 'Scene Tree', and move the object using the Red/Green/Blue arrows you see)
I've put hundreds of hours into this. Mainly I just drive around or race around the tracks and practice my skills. Its also fun to mess with configs and build a car you like. Try mods and just relax while cruising.
I got bored by the game so I made me personal engine & transmission mods, interior mod, and recently sound mod. They are not the easiest thing to do, in fact, I think they're frustrating to make but they are doable if you invest some time reading and learning what's going on the game & mod files. When you finally got it working... If feels good.. really good! It keeps me coming back to BeamNG due to the fact that I can somewhat "personalize" the game myself.
What's really weird about me, is I have about 800 hours and have only played 1 scenario. I have about 3 mods, so I guess it's up to natural selection. I'd say try making mods, create challenges for yourself, rally, race, or make vancakes
It takes some imagination to continue enjoying the game. I have about 1250 hours in game and I still play. I mostly just drive and crash, but every now and then I'll find some scenarios to keep me entertained. Last night I found a new way to have fun, Ill set some AI cars to roam the map, and I'll use the B25 bomber mod and try to fly into the cars driving around randomly.
Create custom configs and save them. It's always cool coming up with some personal configs to drive around, test, and crash. Maybe mix some mods into your configs, like I did with this one. Try again at doing chases, maybe you are just on one of those maps that doesn't have good AI path/too many sharp corners. I always do chases when I'm bored. There's a lot of other fun things you can do on BeamNG. If you are playing on the gridmap a lot, try using other maps, like Utah or ECA, or even mix some mods in. Try driving around normally at high speeds, if you have an OK FPS (like 15 or above), it can get scary around corners. Don't purposely crash though because it's not that fun in my opinion. (unless you like that kind of thing) Mods are probably the best part of BeamNG. With the lack of a variety in models with some cars the config packs can help a lot. But there is a ton of other mods too. There is always a ton of big and intresting maps out there, but there's also the smaller maps that are just as fun if you don't have a decent PC. There's the prop mods (e.g. spikestrip) that are TONS of fun if you can get them to work correctly. Especially the spikestrip in chases. But there is a props pack out there and a ton of other stuff. Of course you have your basic car mods, but then you have boats and planes, which are a really good part of the game. The planes are easier to use though. Hope this helps!
I totally need to try this now! I had some fun with Miramars on the speedway track a la suicide race (3 cars driving forward, the other 3 in reverse).
7K tach, custom engine (350 CID in this vid), and custom sound. This is why I never got bored with my in-game Barstow
