I think the transmissions especially autos should have thermal wear eventual slipping and shifting issues then total failure, Or at least something along the lines of abuse damage besides the manual trans gear damage. For instance, I beat the heck out of the 3 speed auto in the legran , Throwing it in reverse to stop the car and everything for near 30min, And it was un damaged, I think it would have burned out from wear in real life hehe.

It wouldn't. They use torque converters so the car dont give a shit that you were on high RPM in reverse for 30 mins.

And i have never heard of thermal wear in an auto transmission.

You can burn up a transmission if you get it hot enough for long enough and cook the fluid, Eventually the clutch bands start slipping and you start losing gears, Or it will stop shifting smoothly/at all, Also the automatic trans in a 90s car would most certainly be pooched if you threw it in reverse at 70mph on the freeway and floored it, it would burn the ever living hell out of the clutch bands in the trans and you would probably not have reverse anymore lol. there's no damage system to automatics in this game, But you an most certainly screw up one in real life by miss treating it, If they went really in depth, Most cars have a trans fluid cooler either built into or in front of the radiator, So when you crush the rad you also puke all the trans fluid out :)

Well, yeah. If you go hard on anything it will break. But the liquid of the automatic transmission doesn't has MUCH to do with clutch slipping, that would be the clutches itself being worn out, but that would require the tranny to be quite old. And again, the automatic transmission is using a torque converter, not a DCT. By going into reverse while going fast forward you are gonna burn the clutch a little bit due to the friction and stress but you aren't exactly going to break the entire system.

Take it from me. Automatic trannies get hot and burn up all the time from abuse. (Derby guys will tell you so) Hell, I even run a tranny that is set up for tractor hydraulic oil with higher pressure because regular ATF gets gummy when it's hot.

Automatics IRL are fairly easy to overheat. Put your car in D, put your left foot on the brake, and put your right foot on the throttle, gradually pressing down until the car doesn't want to stay still anymore. If you leave it like that for long enough, you will melt your torque converter. Note: Don't actually do this unless you want a $2000+ repair.

Overloading a TC auto can also put too much stress and overheat it. For example, towing beyond recommended capacity will cause too much work for the drivetrain.

Yep, I remember the tranny smoking when my old man was hauling a load of oak in an old heavy duty manure spreader we used for hauling wood. Old chev in overdrive with highway gears lol

Huh. I didn't knew that the TC oil would heat up that fast.

Aren't there two kinds of oils? one for the TC and another one inside the gearbox itself?

A trans can definetly overheat, I had a Camry all-trac that had an auto, right on the dash there was an "A/T temp" light, because long term city driving in hot weather or trailer pulling with the AWD system could easily fry the trans if you weren't careful

... No You should fill up the torque converter with tranny fluid before you put it back in your trans though or you'll burn it up :D Though I'd like to see you fill one up with gear lube and see how long you can get it to go through your lines! lol
