How to save engine files once changed?

How do I save the changes I've made to the engine files? When I save it in notepad it saves but doesn't actually effect the vehicle. Please help thanks!

 

If you've created a new engine, you need to select that engine in the parts selector (Ctrl+W)
If not, I'll need to know more to help. Screenshots and files are always helpful

 

I just tweaked the default engine. How do I save the changes to the vehicle? Thanks for your help

 

Did you reload the vehicle? Press Ctrl+R, then see. If it still doesn't work, maybe the mod path is wrong.

WHEN I GO INTO THE ENGINE FILES OF PESSIMA I CHANGE ENGINE IDLE SPEED FROM 850 TO 5000.
THEN I CLICK SAVE IN NOTEPAD AND IT SAVES IT BUT DOESN'T ACTUALLY CHANGE THE IDLE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. SORRY I POSTED SO MANY PICS OF THE SAME THING! THE PICS SHOW WHAT SECTION OF THE FILES IM IN THANKS

 

you need to make your own "mod" folder, in the end it should look like:
documents/beamng.drive/mods/unpacked/*whatever you want to call it*/vehicles/pessima/pessina_engine.jbeam

I would also advise changing the name on line 2 of the file, if you don't want to overwrite the original part, for example, changing pessima_engine_sohc to pessima_engine_johnm or something along those lines.
