What cars are the most popular beaters where you live?

    In Puławy, Poland:
    • 90s German family cars - Ford Escort, Focus & Mondeo (last 3 of these most often), VW Golf & Passat, Opel Astra, Vectra, Audi 80 and A4, BMW E39, Mercedes W202. Typical problems: miscoloured body panels, grime, paint wear, mechanical problems, rust.
    • Cheap 90s cars - Ford Ka and Fiesta, Opel Corsa, Daewoo Matiz and Lanos, Fiat Seicento, Peugeot 106, 205 and 206, Renault Clio. Typical problems: cheap maintenance, missing trim, rust, dents, mechanical issues.
    • Large vans. Most commonly 2nd and 3rd gen big Eurovans (Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer, Citroen Jumper), 1st gen Mercedes Sprinters, 90s/early 2000s Ford Transits and VW Transporters T4. Typical problems: collision damage, cheap repairs (up to and including duct tape), missing trim, rust, still carrying the first German/Dutch/etc. owner's livery.
    • 90s Japanese compacts, mostly Mazda 323s, and large cars (e.g. 90s Toyota Camrys, early Lexuses) . Typical problems: rust, grime, cheap maintenance.
    • Mk3 (2000-2007) Ford Mondeos. Typical problems: grime, cheap maintenance, dents, mechanical issues.
And what are the common beaters of your area?

    In Wasilla, AK:

J-bodies, though usually at least 3rd gen. Mismatched panels, grime, rust, and occasional damage are common. 2nd gen models like mine are rarer but do occasionally appear.

1990s and early 2000s compacts and subcompacts in general often show up in the drive-through with mismatched panels, wrecked interiors, vaguely ungood noises coming from the engine bay, and unusually loud idles which probably indicate exhaust damage rather than modification.

Surprisingly, some 1990s and 2000s luxury and near-luxury cars (Mercedes & etc.) can very occasionally be spotted making the same noises and sporting other signs of damage & cheap repairs.

As you would expect, trucks make up a large percentage of the beater population here. There are a lot of redneck & dirt-rider type teenagers & twentysomethings around here, who tend to end up purchasing and beating the snot out of trucks. Also a lot of older people who need a truck for whatever reason and don't particularly care if it's pretty or luxurious. Older trucks (70s & 80s) tend to be owned almost exclusively by the older people. They're usually sporting a lot of rust and possibly some body damage, but they just refuse to die. Certain 4x4 SUVs can also fall under this category.

I don't really pay attention to beaters, but if I had to guess, most of them would be 90's Camrys.

Agree as the cars I mentioned are old rather than beaters.

Yeah my dad would have more stories about the beaters he saw around Glenesk Farm back in the 1960s but that was 50 years ago and he was surrounded by farm equipment which REALLY doesnt count!
