I think those are fair criticisms, but I don't believe the fallacy fallacy applies to me in this case, because I at no point addressed any of the points of the argument, and therefore wasn't really a part of the argument/debate. All I did was point out the use of several fallacies in a 3/4-assed assessment.
I actually have a Tumblr https://www.tumblr.com/blog/6a13-twinturbo it's not as bad as the Internet makes it look. Just make sure you are following the right blogs.
Oh god it's not the onion. Things like this are the most brutal depression fuel you can hope for. ___ Though I just read the argument going on. I didn't think I'd see this the argument about overzealous progressivism leak into here but it's become such a massive social issue I'm not surprised. I'm actually gay and I can't fathom where it's come from. I have a job, house, car, partner and don't face any discrimination. My boyfriend's a happy healthy person also with good work too. All I get is a tenacious ribbing from a lot of friends but that's healthy and enjoyable and it's only because I laugh at it and give it back that I get it as much as I do. I live in the north of england in a fairly poor area, nobody cares and that means that homosexuality has long been considered equal socially. Same for trannies, there's a couple on my computer science course and it's a genuine challenge to find anyone who actually cares who isnt' taking some kind of social study degree. So it's bugging me that there's a push against discrimination worldwide thats as agressive as it is. Again, I'm experiencing it because the uni's really aggressive about having conversations about LGBT and race and stuff that nobody cares about. Every other day I get an email about some kind of LGBT or race seminar being given in a lecture theatre somewhere. I've been dragged into conversations and called a fake gay for siding with liberal position instead of the progressive one. Between the uprising of the alt right and the far left I get the feeling that classical liberalism is a dead political identity. It's now trendy to be a genuine authoritarian and eager to micromanage people's opinions. I suppose my point is, as one of the people that the progressives are supposedly being activists on the behalf of I'm kinda grateful to those pushing back against this overzealous coddling. I don't want to be a protected class, equality was fine.
About time @RealPoptart727 went his own separate way with me...I was losing brain cells thanks to his cancerous nb-femme turtle OC.
I was not telling anyone what to believe. I was setting off and participating in a dumbass quarrel, i.e. trolling, because I had nothing better to do. Every word of that debate ought to be ignored -- there are much more important things to argue about. Anyway, out of pure curiosity, what do you mean by "liberal?" The definitions of liberal, conservative, progressive, etc. vary so wildly by geographical area. I would imagine you mean center to center-left...? UPDATE: oh god it is real news. People get worked up over stupid shit. The racist sandwich, however, was not the focus of the cited article, but merely a poorly-chosen example of what cultural bias could look like in a lesson. The Huffington Post blew that part out of proportion (can you say clickbait?) and ignored the focus of the article, which was about boosting minority students' performance in schools in Portland, Oregon and the way the public school system chose to go about achieving that goal -- through faculty diversity training.
