I had an interesting thought the other day: what if BeamNG Drive hosted a competition in order for content creators to create more vehicles. There would be a date the mods have to be completed by, and the best vehicle(s) get added into the main game. Not only would there then be more vehicles to chose from in the main game, but there would be more vehicle mods to chose from as well. I think this competition would really contribute to this community, and I hope this can become a reality.
Because vehicles take several months to make. and beamng devs already had tried to have a modder make an official vehicle. Last i heard it didn't work very well and after a long time they had to scrap everything and do the car themselves. I think its the LeGran.
Yes and btw if you make some simple rules such as no real life brand/vehicke 3d model etc for this competitions and display a banner that goes to a poll with all vehicles photos+video demos+desc on the top of the forum it would be awesome ! Also, when I heard for the word "competition" in this thread, I thought about something else wich I'm going to share with you in another thread a little bit later today...
is it? it stands to show that not just being able to create a vehicle as a mod makes it good enough to be part of the official base game, as OP tried to say
It was not modders. IIRC they hired an outside company, but the company was unable to make it up to Beam's standards.
The problem I see with this is not the creation of these vehicles, but their upkeep through game-breaking updates. After all, it's no good if a new vehicle or two is added to BeamNG.drive, only to get broken in some way or another in the next update. It would lead to a constant maintenance of said vehicle or two by their creators, who would likely want to move on to other projects, or the devs, who may or may not understand how the vehicle(s) were built and how to fix them for the next update. It would basically devolve into a whole load of messiness between the vehicle creators and the devs if the former group goes off to build other vehicles as free mods for the repo or forums, and when the vehicle(s) get utterly broken and cannot be fixed anymore, they would have to be deprecated and removed from the game. So, overall, it's not entirely a win-win situation for everyone when taking this into account; as shown by the amazing Oldsfullsize mod, merely building a car with huge customization and tons of features and bodystyles is only one part of the task; maintaining it update by update is arguably the harder task.
To go with this, I always thought it would be cool to have a BeamNG competition where you had several teams that made custom race cars for a specific course. The teams are given specific rules they have to adhere to, but everything else can be up to interpretation. Then you see which team can complete the course in the fastest time.
