Extreme, LLC is VERY usefull. From the amd article explaining what it does, "A setting used to counter the drop of voltage under loads, the droop varies with loading, but it is used to keep the CPU within TDP when loaded." Meaning the voltages you provide to the cpu will drop when the cpu gets loaded up, called vdroop, and when that happens too much instability ensues. LLC trys to counter that, and it was a godsend when I first started overclocking my current rig. The amount of vdroop you will experience varies from motherboard to motherboard. Mine was a cheapie so I experience a fair amount of it.
Lol almost like parenting. Should I run a test now? I have set the LLC to EXTREME OVERDRIVE (Extreme, but I am gonna call it that).
Prior to testing go to the windows power management and make sure all the power saving settings are tuned off as well. I have never used windows 8 so I am not sure how to navigate to those. These power saver settings can also contribute to instability. After having done that go ahead and try a test.
I'm not an AMD guy, so no promises. Anyway. I wouldn't use LLC once you get the overclock stable, but it is mostly personal preference. Can you tell me what you have done in the bios so far? The thread is confusing. We might should start another thread though. Could an admin move these posts to a new thread with cardinals permission?
I am perfectly fine with moving into a new thread. BIOS, I have done the following: CPU Clock: x16.5 (3.3GHz) Voltages manual, only changed CPU voltage, which is 1.3625v, not 1.5 like my system wanted (stupid power hungry system lol) LLC: Extreme Overdrive AMD C1E Support: Off AMD C6 Support: Off Virtualization: Off Cool and Quiet: Off APM Master Mode: Off Hardware Thermal Control: On CPU Smart Fan Control: Off (Keeps on high now) And that is all that I changed/ think that may matter whether it is on/off. Also, I already changed Power management a bit ago. Noticed after my computer was obviously slower than it should have been. It is on High Performance.
I am waiting for his approval to test. But what do I want? I would love a Pixel Collider of my own, fully completed BeamNG, and access to free beef jerky (Love it, but it's so damn expensive). (None of those will be possible for now, but I can dream, can't I?)
Ok, I would set the BLCK to something even like 100 if you have ocd, a little higher if not. Then just hike the multiplier a notch or two and test. I guess I don't see what the current issue is.
Ya go ahead and test. Bubble, with amd cpus (haven't overclocked any intel other than an old e2100, locked multi) multiplier overclocking is the fan favorite. I used a combo of multiplier and FSB (emphasis on FSB for that efficiency) to get my 4ghz, but it took a LOT more fine tuning for stability than the far easier upping the multiplier. Yey progress time. Lets see how it goes. Should I test all six cores? Or should I run something like 4 or 5 and temps?
If it crashes on 6, should I do that? Wouldn't that let it do both easier? Also, Small FFTs, In-place large FFTs, or Blend test?
If it crashes on six either add voltage (If it is cool, and stay below 1.4 IMO) or lower the multiplier. I test twice, using blend for general stability and large for heat.
Okay, testing now! Also, I am on my school tablet to send these posts, not the computer. Oh damn lol, those temps really can go up fast. CPU already jumped by 30F. Is that bad? Also, is 150F a safe point to stop testing if it gets to it? It hasn't yet.
