WCUSA and that massive Tennessee map run at about the same performance on my computer, so while it's often the case, it doesn't appear to be always. Aside from there being slightly too many roadblocks and the performance though, I really do like the map. Mainly the twistier hilly bits at night.
Larger maps bring up more issues. 2048 is the best balance between size and appearance stability. T3D is not suitable for large maps. It can be done, but you start to get graphical issues as you travel further away from the spawn point. It also takes extremely long in some cases to load big maps. You can do a lot in 4,194,304 sq. m that you get in surface area on a 2048x2048 heightmap. While cramped, I do feel like BeamNG did a decent job at creating the map, aside from quality control issues which I hope are addressed in the hot-fix or 0.12. So you're saying an old tower IBM from the late 80s early 90s is going to run BeamNG better than a 2012 HP Pavilion pre-built with an AMD a8 5500 APU in it No. Its about what's inside, not just the girth of the PC in question. I have an i5 4690k, a GTX 1070, and 8 GB of RAM in my system. The Tennessee map is unplayable, while WCUSA is, aside from me turning down my Dynamic Reflections a bit. I can play larger maps as long as the vegetation and static object count are low and are well optimized.
Interesting. I am aware that the point of the map is to not have many maps between main story mode sections, but will we get a city expansion for WCU? That's the thing that worries me the most.
Play on lesser graphics. I play on all min and i dont complain about the graphics. 60 Smooth all around on a 5 year old PC.
i feel like the map was a bit rushed. only came with 3 scenarios, 2 of which are broken or unbalanced, low FPS for quite a few users, and some visual errors in a few places
The dirt race has the AI turned off. The cover vs sunburst race is too easy, the sunburst crashes almsot every time. The other race is also quite easy but that's just the AI being slow. Is it just me or does the screen that tells me the description of the scenario doesn't appear either?
I wanna say the mods had to rush to get the update finished before thanksgiving, so that could be the cause.
Game engine limitations plus in BeamNG the whole map is loaded up at once, unlike other games where sections of the map loads up then unload when you disappear from that area.
Basically what I said when I mentioned that T3D wasn't suitable for extensively large open world maps. It annoys me but I understand that its a limitation for the time being we just have to deal with. Long loading times, Risk of crashing on systems with less than ideal RAM amounts, and poor performance. I don't think the devs want to mess with making large maps quite yet. Though, Personally I don't think a 4096x4096 size map would hurt any, infact it's still almost perfectly supported. Its when you get up to the 8192x8192 range that things start to become shaky. Once I tried an 8192x8192 heightmap at 2x square size... That thing was massive, and I was starting to get extreme graphical glitches everywhere around the edges when the heightmap was centered. And as a mod mapmaker, the .ter files for the terrain are nearly a third the size of my entire allowed uploadable file size when I use a large 8192x8192 heightmap. Its almost too big for the repo to make a good looking one
What's wrong with that? The only problem I could find is that they call the difficulty "Easy." Should at least be "Hard."
Totally agree. There is a distinct feeling to me that this map was under pressure. Regardless though, there is a method to the maddness and I think this map is targeted for some kind of expansion scheme. When I look at the detail in the meshes and foliage in WCUSA I am amazed that it even got released at this time. The workflow for this level of Blender output must be a sight to see, and we just may get to see that in @B25Mitch's new tutorial thread.
Can anyone here speak chinese? i kinda have the feeling the shops in china town can be easter eggs if you translate them.
I like how it looks but I can agree that it runs like crap on my computer. I hope they change it up to run better for lower end setups.
