Get something that's safe, reliable, and easy to work on.

I've got a 1998 Dodge Neon, and it's a great first car. Cheap, easy to maintain, enough spare parts to build a skyscraper, and meh insurance.
A Mustang will cost you more over 6 months for insurance than you paid for the car itself.
A New Dodge Dart... Well if you can afford it it's a great first car. It's new, so that means it should be in good condition.
An Old Dodge Dart... Well if you can afford it it's a terrible first car. But I'm praying to god that you're talking a new one.

A miata is a great first car, (I don't have one) they are easy on gas and insurance and handle well. If you save up and put $600/700 into a turbo you would win a lot of road races. Just a fun car, I wish I had one.

If only it were easier to find a car with all 3 of those. Normally you have to sacrifice atleast one

Depends on what you need. What do you need out a first car besides fuel economy because we all want that except for the very rich.

It doesn't quite work here in England. Must be why the insurance for them here makes them a bad choice of a first car.

They're great if you don't want to become a taxi for everyone though

I'm probably gonna cop me one when I get the cash. Small engine, lightweight, seats you and your girl, and look fresh. I think the only issue is the soft top and it doesn't have 4 seats.

A big Truck. Nobody can kill you in there, unless you let a semi at you.

If you look, you can get a '90s Bently or Rolls pretty cheap. I saw a '99 Bently Arnage go for like $6K at an auction once. You would be the envy of every car owner at your high school, despite that many of them payed (or had their parents pay) more for the new Civic or Prius. And again, no one can kill you in there. They're practically tanks.

Anything with a manual transmission. That way it can't be stolen by dumb people.

A cheap old van, so all your friends can come along.

Some of these suggestions were more serious than others.

A pickup would be a better pick because you wouldn't look like you had a interview with Chris Hanson before if you have a truck.

Acura RSX and Honda DC5 (same car, diff manufacturer) are good on gas mileage, cheap, im planning on getting one for a first car (im 15), the only semi major issue is with the transmission (dont know full details, research if you want) but otherwise a solide first/project car. or buy a 240sx and repair it alot lol

I already know I'm going to wind up with my Dad's 2002 Toyota Tundra, and I'm fine with that. He might also let me drive the 260z on rare occasions after it's fixed up.

It's a nice car. And the rust is gradually coming off.

I'm not going to fuck it up with ricer crap.
