Unable to update

Hey guys, I'm not sure when but out of nowhere I went to run Drive and it tried to update and it said couldn't resolve hostname and won't update. It always says check internet connection even though I clearly have internet lol. I tried checking my firewall settings and all that and even reinstalled the game, but even the first update check when installed won't let it update. Any ideas?

EDIT: I just realized that since I reinstalled and it couldn't do the update I don't have a shortcut to launch the game at all. Even in the game folder the launch shortcut it missing.

 

so does this mean your problem is fixed or do you need the icon?

 

No its not fixed. I guess since it can't update it doesn't create or can't get the updated launch icon so I can't launch the game. And trying to manually update always gives me the same error saying can't resolve hostname and check internet connection.

 

Did you try updating with your firewall and antivirus temporarily disabled?

 

All I run is Microsoft Security Essentials and the default windows firewall, disabled both of them and still the same thing. Says cannot download file: version.txt, could not resolve host name. When the update box comes up it hangs where it says detecting proxy settings, then fails.

Lulz... disabling my proxy server in IE which I never use and have no clue how it was turned on fixed it... downloading update as I type this.

 

So is your problem fixed? Or do you need the icon because I can give it to you.

 

Did you restart the computer? You may have to clear any remaining cache files.

 

All is fixed now, somehow Internet Explorer had a proxy server enabled even though I never enabled it and I never even use Internet Explorer. Back to enjoying the awesomeness of BeamNG Drive.

 

Hey just wanted to say a big thank you for this! After being frustrated at why I couldn't update it was do to proxy settings being randomly set to use a proxy in internet options.

Fix for this:

Start --> In the search box type Internet Options --> Connections --> Lan Settings --> Disable any proxy settings.

Windows 7.

hey guys thank you sooooo much!!!!! I was so sad and mad that I couldn't update. I was telling myself "what if I cant get the race update when it comes out?!?!" All of a sudden I go to BeamNG.Drive and searched up couldn't update... ang BOOM I got to update again. Thanks sooooo much again!!
