I personally would like it on Steam, but I bet there are a few individuals who don't want to use any sort of DRM. Maybe something could be done akin to Humble Store's way of having DRM-Free copies of games but Steam (and other service) keys available with the click of a button.

Steam is one of few distribution platforms I agree with, actually it's the ONLY one I would like to use.
This should totally become a greenlight project/game on Steam.

Personally i like the idea of it being on steam, steam is probably the only easy to use and reliable dl service ive found, besides it could be an excellent hit on their greenlit games page.

I'd love it being on steam, but if it's better to release it yourselves then do that.

Steam should be good for the modding aspect especially, Workshop seems like a nice service to use.

Indeed, but in return for tons of bandwidth, free updates, and nice community / Steamworks features.

That is actually a fair point, it makes sense for them to take some money while you get great service and happy customers, including popularization through steam. Steam Workshop could also be used.

Gabe says: Give ME control of your games!

If you want community you have this forum.

Updates? How are they not possible without Steam? The only reason we stopped playing counterstrike was due to the incessant MANDATORY updates that Steam made so popular.
If anyone updated their game, all 12 of my systems had to be updated and that takes forever.

Why would I want to launch something, just to launch my game?

IMHO just another layer of unnecessary failure.

Fanboy resistant, flameproof suit on... hehe!

12 different computers? How the faq? Well good for you then.... On topic the main reason I shared was because of workshop being implemented for different mods and being on steam in general will get a ton of people seeing it and will get popular VERY fast

Totally agree, I see Steam when it's mandatory as a waste of time and it just adds further annoyance. I just want to click the shortcut and play, offline (it's still glitchy on Steam). Why should we have to wait for files to 'verify' before we can play the game and have it tied to one account. I use Steam but before it becomes less obtrusive I don't want to see it's inclusion, and if the BeamNG developers do want to put it on Steam please keep it optional.

And if CounterStrike released updates outside of Steam, you'd have to manually locate it, download it, and run the installer on each system. Steam streamlines the update process so much, and I've never heard of anyone who doesn't want a game to be constantly updated. Your argument has no logic.

Actually it's very logical. If I did download an installer I would only need to do it once and then copy it to the other systems, vs needing to let Steam download the update 12 times at once, this will kill the fastest connection.
Besides it's not that difficult to download, I do it all the time. ;)

The constant updates are usually nothing more than minor tweaks, I can't remember the last time anything worthwhile was released, but you MUST update to be able to play, EVERYONE must update if anyone does.
In short, the biggest reason for the constant updates is to make people feel that it's worth having Steam installed on their system, it seems to work in that respect.
I would rather simply go to the website that has the product of interest, there I can access forums that deal with something I'm interested in, download any updates, see new products or coming features ect. and if there's any benefit
to my presence it will benefit the company that makes the product not a company that exists simply to releave me of the arduous task of downloading.

I do agree that Steam is a good advertising platform, not the best, but still good for exposure. Release the demo there.

Another problem I've seen on friends systems lately is that Steam will refuse to drop a download, even if they kill Steam. I suspect it's the cloud "feature" trying to parse, but it kills the bandwidth, no bueno.

How I see steam is like this: One distribution network for every game, rather than many for each game.

I don't see what the resistance to steam is. Don't like updates? turn them off. Like updates? all the better. Turn them on. Cheap games, a modding utility that makes it as simple as clicking a subscribe button, and a library for managing games. you require no more than 3 brain cells to use it. I love it. The only stipulation is the requirement to be online all the time. Personally, I don't mind it. I always have the internet. I can only see the always online thing being an issue. Atleast steam doesn't automatically close your games down if you drop offline for a bit.

that said, for most games steam merely needs to be running and getting offline mode to work is easy enough. bit fiddly but easy enough. anyway, steam integration probably won't be mandatory if it happens. Kerbal space program seem to have a scheme going where they have a store off of steam, and a store on Steam. so I really don't see why there's a resistance. Don't like steam? Fine. don't use it.

Why do you need to download it from steam 12 times at once?
Download the patch one time, and copy it to the other computers, just like you normally do.

Wrong. Put Steam in offline mode, and you'll never need to update again. The only times you need to update is when you want to play games that require you to connect to an online server, like Multiplayer games.

Learn how Steam works please before you spit out false information.

The biggest reason for constant updates is of course the developers making them?
And Steam have forums for each and every game on there, with huge connection to the development team them selves. Especially Indie games. I've seen developers communicating more on the Steam forums than their own, simply because the community is larger there, so they reach more people with what they want to say, or state by going there.

Right click the game and click "Pause Download"?

I've never seen steam downloading something when I've told it not to.

Steam is one of the better platforms out there, and it would be foolish to not consider releasing this game on there. Especially now with the new Early Access system they have started.
Its basically the "Minecraft Model", where the developers can earn funding from letting people that are interested buy early access to play early playbuilds.

There are so many good things that comes with having this game one Steam, compared to bad ones its ridiculous not to have it there.
