However it limits the "trolls" who go around liking every single post to annoy users. The goal is to limit trolls while still maintaining such a system, and I know the system works as quite a few other forums use such a system. They all have their problems with immature users, the system works well against them.

We can try and see. Everyone needs to just see this whole thing as an experiment, and not final decisions. Everything is subject to change.

That's the sole reason the ratings became worthless.

I think you are right, the tricky part is finding the right balance between too few, and too much. Maybe we don't post how many ratings a person has posted, but rather recieved? I'll be honest, I don't know much about the rating system and how the points are read out.

The rating trolls haven't been around for quite some time. The last person who really stands out was WalrusVersionOfCrazyRacer, and he learned his lesson and is actually a pretty good contributor now compared to his early days.

It's pretty easy to see who's doing that as well, just call them out like the above example and if its like the already given example, they'll either stop or it can be brought to an admin's attention.

I must say it is almost depressing to see that trolls are an issue where they made a moderator rage quit. also any idea when or if the ratings system will come back.

If the community wants a 'like' system (that doesn't give the trolls more weapons), they can have it. If they're not happy with it, just ask 'Would you rather not have a like system?' and they'll be quiet.

maybe having the option to "verify" a member and then let them use ratings and such things. you can still post and etc but if you are a new, unverified member some options may be limited.
It could also potentially eliminate the creation of spam accounts. verifying with steam as an example, you would need to have another steam with beamng bought to be verified on the forum.
    Just an idea i had.

Or, maybe, if a system detects that a member is rating too quickly, maybe every 30 seconds, 5 times in a row (just throwing that out there) Then they will get a warning and be stopped from rating anything for a time, 30 minutes possibly.

It would make it strict, but hopefully not too strict for casual members.

Or a minimum post count or something along those lines.

Giving members a badge is the worst thing you can do.
Treat everyone equal, whether they have 9000 posts or 9, it's the actual content of said posts that matters.

Its the only option we have to prevent the Trolls. Its agressive, but it may work

Ranks aren't gonna happen. I brought it up a long time ago and got a "no" from tdev. If you want me to find his post on that, I'll get it.

In much the same vein but a different "solution", what about having the ratings be a privilege and not something that everybody is entitled to? Like, if you receive warnings about your posting habits or you get banned, you get your ability to rate posts removed as a repercussion (maybe permanently, maybe not). There's some issues with this, but it is just another idea.

There's one problem with the steam suggestion. Some BeamNG players use Humble, so they would loose access because they can't verify without creating a steam account.

i just threw another idea out there for people like you to think of other possibilities. and this doesnt seem like such a bad idea too.

they would have a way to get verified too, i just said steam as an example because its the most used platform.
