Like or awesome, that's all you need. Would be fine with none at all.

Trolls abused the funny rating, disagree turned into a landslide of hate and harassment.
Without ratings to hide behind the trolls would have to directly expose their behavior in a public manner, which they won't do because they are antagonistic cowards who love to play the victim.

This is a game forum, this should not be your life, life is what happens outside of computers.

You do not own this forum, the owners do. Agree or disagree is irrelevant, it's their forum to do with as they please. If it does not please you, that is your own individual problem, not theirs.

Learn the definition of respect. I'm not religious in any way, but, do unto others as you would have done to yourself.

What's sad about all this, is that @tdev is losing his vacation to clean up after a bunch of people acting like they are free. If some of us would think before we posted, than tdev could actually be enjoying his vacation rather than cleaning this up. A number of people should be ashamed of themselves.

Question: who might these trolls be? Most of the trolls here thrive off of people not using ratings, solely because it means they goad people into shitposting and making a huge flamewar. One response telling them to shut up is all that's needed, because then if people really want to show they care they just rate the post agree.

 

So if I'm understanding some of these recent statements correctly.

Things that would help = Most unorthodox

I'm sorry, I respect the staff, but I'm not impressed with these changes. I fail to see where they're going to solve anything, only where its going to dig the hole even deeper. :\

Another thing that might help would be removing notifications by default for when a post of yours is liked. It'll cut down on the notification flooders.

I'm not sure to what degree of a deterrent this would be; but would publicly flagging more posts as warned, and publicly flagging users as previously banned help? Maybe even listing each user's warning points above their post count?

Hell, if all else fails; just bring back 2011-era gabester!

Anyone can be targeted by a troll, and it's useless information to begin with. What's important is that you got quoted, ratings are worthless numbers without reasons behind them.

 

I can understand, but at the same time, that would open another door for flag-flooding, I suppose. Also, flagging for not-so-good reasons could exist.

Probably not as much of a problem in this case, but any type of number of people could cause for competition, even if its negative.

 

I'm thinking along the lines of what we had on the RoR forums; a big red tag the moderators would put at the bottom of a warned post.

 

I'm not on the RoR forums as much as ever, so I cant compare, but I could agree with this. There are pros and cons to everything, so the only thing that could make the final decision are devs.

The members, barring the staff and mods, here now are all equal in their "status."
If you grant power to someone who isn't used to it, you're setting yourself up for creating someone who will abuse their power because they are "higher" than everyone else.
